In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary:

The PreK Training and Support Coordinator will be responsible for providing teachers and school leaders with training on implementing PreK core curriculum in alignment with the vision of excellent instruction and Tactical Improvement Plan (TIP) Goals. They will also be responsible for designing and delivering district-wide professional development and support PreK teachers and school-based staff with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments. This role includes overseeing a caseload of PreK classrooms as the dedicated Early Childhood Specialist (ECS). Ideal candidates will demonstrate understanding of and experience with the following:

  • The Creative Curriculum for PreK

  • GSRP and Michigan Child Care Licensing Requirements

  • Instructional coaching

  • Early Childhood Specialist requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood or related field

  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in grade band and content area¿

  • A minimum of 5 years teaching or leading in PreK learning environments

  • Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development¿

  • Experience supporting school leaders and teachers with developing a high quality PreK learning program

  • Experience providing curriculum support to teachers and school leaders in PreK learning environments

  • Experience developing curriculum and pacing guides in PreK learning environments

  • Strong working knowledge of the Michigan Early Child Standards of Quality for Prekindergarten

  • Experience providing community support to parents of students in PreK learning environments

Essential Functions:

Under the direction of the PreK Curriculum Leader, will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of PreK curriculum content areas, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines that are in alignment with state standards and the vision for excellent instruction to positively impact student achievement.

  • Assist teachers in the implementation of an ECSQ-PK program, Creative Curriculum, and Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy and Mathematics.

  • Provide teachers with mentoring and training on GSRP requirements as outlined in the GSRP Implementation Manual.

  • Draft¿communication as it pertains to ongoing PreK professional development, curriculum initiatives, and GSRP requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development, curriculum initiatives, and GSRP requirements.

  • Monitor and review existing and potential¿professional development¿programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.

  • Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction¿through¿observing teachers, modeling lessons, and providing targeted professional development.

  • Develop and execute professional development in core content areas, in alignment with the vision for excellent instruction.

  • Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with¿analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.

  • Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for school staff.

  • Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development workshops provided by district vendors.

  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
