We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Preconstruction Planner / Senior Estimator operating in our West Michigan market, to play a crucial role in the early stages of our project success. Clark's PreCon Services group is reinventing how Preconstruction is done, through our progressive vision, our values and our embrace of innovation, we continue to enrich our customers construction experience. In this position, you will be responsible for leading the preconstruction process on multiple projects throughout multiple commercial market sectors. You will be accountable for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, collaborating with project teams to face challenges and ensure successful project outcomes. Based in Southeast Michigan - Ideal candidates may live near Detroit, Ann Arbor, Troy, Novi, Sterling Heights, or other surrounding SE Michigan areas.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead teams of project stakeholders through the preconstruction process on multiple assigned projects.
- Responsible for projects throughout all regions and markets
- Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates from conceptual design through construction documents.
- Adapt to and adopt the skills, standards, values of the PreCon Services group and maintain a high level of service to our clients (internal and external)
- Perform quantity take-offs, analyze subcontractor bids, and provide value leadership throughout the process.
- Prepare and present cost reports, budgets, and lead value analysis exercises
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors to ensure project feasibility and goal alignment.
- Conduct constructability reviews and identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of current market conditions, material costs, and labor rates.
- Actively Mentor and support estimating staff as you foster a strong culture.
- Proactively BUILD our PreCon service offerings, Trust, the brand and the business.
- Work collaboratively with all departments to develop proposals and presentations.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- 5 + years of progressive experience in preconstruction and estimating within the commercial construction industry.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in Cost Modeling and Benchmarking
- Proven ability to develop accurate and reliable cost estimates for projects of varying size and complexity.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Proficiency in utilizing an estimating software (e.g. Destini Estimator, SiteWorx, Bluebeam, MS Suite).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Highly effective communicator, influencer, presenter, with strong team & interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Professional certifications such as AACE International Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar.
- Experience leading hard-bid estimating projects
- Experience with Healthcare, Industrial, Manufacturing, K12, Higher Ed, Govt commercial construction projects
- Professional affiliations with Industry organizations (AGC, LEED, USGBC, ASHRAE, CMAA, ABC)
