(Full-Time) Park Maintenance Supervisor
BARGAINING UNIT / LEVEL: Supervisory Bargaining Unit - Level 08
SALARY RANGE: $80,808 - $89,107 annually DOQ
- Supervise, schedule and coordinate activities of employees engaged in maintenance activities.
- Hire, train, and supervise all provisional and seasonal maintenance employees.
- Complete annual performance evaluations on all assigned employees.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints and work orders to employees.
- Oversee the scheduling and assignment of staff to provide maintenance support for weddings, building rentals, special events, and activities year-round, in coordination with operations staff.
- Coordinate with the public and contractors on events, room rentals, weddings, etc. Respond to any problems that may occur while events are in progress.
- Maintain buildings and all other duties required in park maintenance.
- Maintain and repair building utility system.
- Perform various plumbing, heating and cooling, and electrical repairs as necessary.
- Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, floors, partitions, doors, building framework and trim.
- Repair fences, gates, walls and walks using carpentry and masonry tools.
- Maintain turf and landscaped areas using hand or power lawn mowers or clippers and edging tools.
- Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
- Irrigate turf and landscape areas using hose or portable sprinkler system.
- Clean drainage ditches and culverts using rakes and shovels.
- Shovel snow from walks and driveways.
- Operate all park equipment in one or more phases of work such as construction, landscape maintenance, clean-up, forestry practices and road and beach maintenance.
- Assist in preparation and administration of annual maintenance budget.
- Maintain records of preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Prepare reports and correspondence; make recommendations to supervisors on maintenance issues.
- May serve on committees as requested such as safety, strategic planning, etc.
- May assist park operations with special events.
- Associate degree in a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Applicants with four (4) or more years of related experience will receive credit toward meeting the minimum educational requirements and will be considered for the position.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience or five (5) years of experience in parks and recreation maintenance of buildings, grounds, and/or park facilities.
- Possession of a valid State of Michigan D-5 Water License or the ability to obtain the license within one (1) year of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL-A with Air Brake endorsement) or the ability to obtain the license within one (1) year of appointment.
- Possession of a valid Pesticide Applicator License (PAL) or the ability to obtain the license within six (6) months of appointment.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, practices, and methods used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of workplace hazards, preventative safety measures, and applicable OSHA/MIOSHA regulations.
- Knowledge of laws and ordinances regulating the operation of motor vehicles.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Ability to operate required tools and equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the use of telephone, radio equipment, and computers.
- Ability to supervise and direct employees effectively.
- Must be available by phone to respond to on-call issues requiring immediate resolution.
- May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED: This position utilizes a variety of hand and power tools; lawn mowers and landscaping equipment; trucks, tractors, and other light- and heavy-duty equipment. The role also requires the use of telephones, two-way radios, and standard office equipment including copiers and fax machines. A computer and related software applications are used, including financial, accounting, payroll, database, scheduling, publishing, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
