Field Supervisor/Maintenance (Outdoors)

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

Performs various aspects of athletic field maintenance and ground keeping duties, preparation, marking and repair for game use and related work as assigned. Provides supervision of athletic programs on the fields as needed.

REPORTS TO: Recreation Coordinator

DESCRIPTION

• Supervise fields and participants by enforcing program and field rules, policies and regulations.
• Prepares athletic fields for play, mark lines, reshape mounds, reset bases, performs general field maintenance duties.
• Loads, transports, and unloads various materials, equipment, and supplies to various locations and facilities.
• When needed; cleans and disinfects restrooms, replenishes paper supplies and soap, as necessary.
• Helps set up facilities for events.
• Ensure fields remain in excellent condition before and through activities.
• Remain visible and available throughout competitions; resolve problems that may arise.
• Respond to participants and spectators in a calm, assertive manner; document and report relevant information to the recreation coordinator.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Communicate and work effectively with coworkers, staff, diverse groups of people and the general public.
• Submit score sheets and standings to the recreation coordinator.
• Supervise umpire and referees.
• Distribute program related items to teams and parents.
• May be asked to perform other duties related to the day-to-day operation of the department.
• Able to drive City vehicle required for field preparation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES

• Reasonable knowledge of computers and software applications and the ability to navigate through internet resources.
• Ability to provide quality customer service.
• Initiative and resourcefulness in problem resolution by looking up schedules and registrations.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public, players, and other staff.
• Able to complete a city application and pass an oral interview.
• Must be physically able to perform work duties; including the ability to lift 50lbs.
• Athletic field preparation experience preferred.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver's license.

SALARY RANGE - This is a temporary/seasonal position (May through November) with an hourly minimum rate of $15.00 (with consideration given to experience)
