Irrigation Technician

Location: Canton, MI

Position Summary:
The Irrigation Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and enhancing irrigation systems for commercial properties. In this role, you will ensure the optimum operation of all irrigation systems by performing system start-ups, winterization, and routine maintenance. You will estimate the time and materials needed for repairs or upgrades while leveraging your knowledge of piping, wiring, and controllers to troubleshoot and improve system efficiency.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

• System Maintenance & Installation:
• Maintain irrigation systems for commercial properties.
• Dig trenches and install pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads.
• Use power tools and hand tools to complete irrigation projects.
• Perform repairs and troubleshooting on existing irrigation systems.
• System Optimization:
• Ensure proper water coverage and distribution for lawns, gardens, and landscapes.
• Conduct detailed inspections and execute upgrades as necessary.
• Scheduling & Coordination:
• Develop weekly and daily schedules for irrigation service and installation projects.
• Coordinate material purchases and maintain an accurate service inventory.
• Track materials and time on service work orders, submitting daily reports.
• Team Collaboration & Supervision:
• Maintain strong communication and working relationships with operations and account management teams.
• Supervise the irrigation team and support staff when needed.
• Equipment & System Support:
• Maintain and care for company equipment, tools, and vehicles.
• Forecast equipment, labor, and material needs to ensure efficient production.
• Repair and maintain valves, trace electrical components, install and initialize clocks and timers, and locate existing zones and valves.
• Professionalism:
• Uphold a professional appearance and attitude at all times.

Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of previous experience in irrigation maintenance.
• Solid understanding of various commercial irrigation system components and their functions.
• Familiarity with the power tools and hand tools commonly used in irrigation work.
• Strong problem-solving skills to effectively troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Irrigation Association Certifications are preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience in repairing underground irrigation systems.
• Ability to install, operate, and program lawn irrigation controllers.
• Competence in troubleshooting and repairing irrigation issues, including 2 or 3 wire systems, leaks, and system upgrades.

Physical Demand Requirements:

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders and work in all types of weather conditions.
• Must be available to work 24/7, with the ability to respond quickly to urgent needs.
