Registered Nurse (RN) – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Location: Ithaca, NY
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 3x12-hour day shifts
Shift Time: 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM
Pay Rate: $52–$60 per hour
Job Summary
"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking an experienced Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to join a fast-paced surgical environment. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality preoperative and post-anesthesia care, ensuring safe recovery and discharge of patients in accordance with ASPAN guidelines . This role supports a wide range of surgical procedures and requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive preoperative nursing care and assist in preparing patients for surgery
Perform Phase I and Phase II recovery , including discharge, within the PACU
Recover patients from elective, urgent, and emergent procedures
Maintain a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio during Phase I/II recovery, with the ability to manage multiple patients as needed
Continuously monitor patients for complications and promptly report abnormal findings
Provide care for pediatric patients (6 months and older) , particularly during high-volume ENT cases (e.g., tonsillectomies, adenoids, ear tubes)
Administer and monitor peripheral nerve blocks
Assist with local procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, and minor orthopedic cases
Support a variety of surgical specialties, including orthopedic, general, ENT, neuro, plastics, urology, and GYN
Ensure strict adherence to patient safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
Collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical staff
Respond effectively to emergencies and make critical clinical decisions
Participate in flexible scheduling and on-call rotation , including weekdays and weekends
Required Skills & Experience
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association)
Experience or comfort working in a high-acuity, fast-paced PACU environment
Ability to manage multiple patients simultaneously
Experience caring for pediatric patients (6 months and older)
Willingness to participate in on-call coverage
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery
Knowledge of ASPAN recovery standards
Experience with ICU-level patients
Experience with endoscopy and monitored anesthesia care (MAC) cases
Background in surgical centers or hospital-based surgical units
PALS certification or demonstrated pediatric recovery experience
