Time Frame: Semester basis. A one-semester commitment is required.
Start Date: Week 1 of each semester.
Hours: Flexible, 15-25 hours/week
Location: 820 Eberhard Center, Pew Campus
Job Type: on-campus student employment (internship credit possible)
Compensation: $10.37/hour
Overview
As part of GVSU, WGVU Public Media provides PBS and NPR programming and community events for approximately 2.5 million people across West and Southwest Michigan. WGVU Education supports and engages our local educators, students, and families around equitable PreK-12 education outcomes. We work with intentionality in communities with our partners to develop sustainable relationships in an effort to authentically meet the needs of educators and families.
Opportunities & Experiences for the Student
The WGVU Education Internship is designed to enable GVSU students to develop and enhance skills within the fields of education and nonprofit under the guidance of WGVU’s experienced staff, supporting the intern in alignment with their own goals, interests, and passions around education. The Education Intern will be an active team member in addressing the education priorities of WGVU and the communities we serve, learning all aspects of the WGVU Education Program, including PBS, NPR, WGVU, and MLC education assets and resources.
The Education Intern will gain hands-on experience in:
- Designing a large-scale education digital resource content project.
- Building relationships while working with community partners and K-12 educators, parents, and students.
- Managing, implementing, and promoting education programming.
- Planning community engagement events.
- Presenting educational content and resources.

Required Qualifications
- Education Major (or related field) or experience in K-12 education.
- Understanding of digital classroom technology and curriculum standards.
- Understanding of effective, equitable educational pedagogies and best practices.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to strategically and effectively manage time and resources.
- Ability to balance teamwork with independent work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities, strong attention to detail, and excellent follow-up skills.
- Knowledge of public media is a plus!
Work Environment: Blended – in-person and virtual.
Some projects take us off campus into a variety of conditions, including the outdoors. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events. Please also note that some schools/programs/events may require us to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
