Reports To: Director / Operations Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Pay Rate : $100,000.00 – $115,000.00+ based on experience

Industry: Heavy Civil Construction, Infrastructure & Sitework

The Opportunity

Command Corporate Fleet Architecture. Drive Vehicle Availability, Mechanical Integrity, and Mobile Asset Velocity.

Major Contracting is seeking a highly disciplined Fleet Logistics & Compliance Manager to direct the comprehensive scheduling, preventative maintenance, and regulatory lifecycle tracking of our commercial truck and passenger vehicle portfolios. Operating as the operational logistics hub for our regional civil infrastructure initiatives, this vital management position is engineered for an active, metrics-driven fleet professional who excels at transforming mobile asset allocations into a finely tuned, zero-downtime system.

In this role, you will hold complete operational authority over our corporate rolling stock, including passenger vehicles, light-duty pickup trucks, commercial CDL hauling trucks, and multi-ton transport trailers. Working alongside our Equipment Manager, who handles heavy machinery, you will focus purely on maximizing vehicle uptime, leading our internal vehicle mechanics, and negotiating vendor frameworks to eliminate operational downtime. If you are a proactive troubleshooter with a background in fleet logistics, commercial DOT compliance, and vehicle resource sequencing, Major Contracting provides the corporate backing, resources, and modern operational platform to maximize your field impact.

Key Responsibilities

You will oversee the entire lifecycle management, mechanical compliance, and project allocation matrices of the corporate vehicle pool to support rapid construction velocity:

  • Daily Asset Administration: Manage day-to-day operations of the fleet and mobile equipment, overseeing precise scheduling, asset assignments, and maximum transport utilization.
  • Predictive Maintenance Overhaul: Develop and enforce comprehensive vehicle maintenance programs, preventative mechanics schedules, and commercial safety inspection procedures.
  • Workflow & Parts Efficiency: Oversee all repair shop workflows, direct strategic vendor relationships, and manage spare parts inventory parameters to aggressively minimize field downtime.
  • Metrics & Analytics Architecture: Monitor fleet and equipment performance metrics (including utilization rates, vehicle availability, and exact cost per hour/mile) and generate regular analytical reports for executive leadership.
  • Fiscal Budget Control: Control the assigned transport operating budget, track daily operational expenses, and implement proactive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance Framework: Ensure absolute compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company safety/regulatory requirements while maintaining flawless fleet records, registrations, and permits.
  • Personnel Leadership & Training: Lead, train, and schedule internal automotive technicians and commercial drivers; conduct routine performance reviews and mandatory safety briefings.
  • Lifecycle & Capital Planning: Coordinate strategic vehicle procurement, multi-year lifecycle planning, and asset disposal or replacement strategies.
  • Incident Investigation & Claims: Investigate on-site and over-the-road traffic incidents, determine root causes, deploy corrective actions, and maintain meticulous accident and warranty documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Fleet Organization: Manage, organize, and optimize the company's comprehensive fleet of commercial trucks, passenger vehicles, and transport trailers.
  • Preventative Maintenance Scheduling: Schedule and coordinate all preventative maintenance frameworks, commercial safety inspections, and mechanical repairs for all fleet vehicles.
  • Mechanical Crew Direction: Supervise, schedule, and assign daily tasks to internal vehicle mechanics to ensure timely, high-quality completion of maintenance and repair workflows.
  • Operational Prioritization: Analyze active project pipelines to prioritize commercial truck and vehicle repairs based on real-time field urgency and operational demands.
  • Asset Allocation Mapping: Track rolling vehicle availability and coordinate fleet assignments directly with project management and field superintendents to eliminate field delays.
  • Compliance Document Administration: Maintain absolute accuracy over vehicle maintenance records, structural repair histories, manufacturer warranties, registrations, titles, and municipal licensing documentation.
  • Regulatory Compliance Command: Guarantee strict compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA protocols, MIOSHA standards, and other applicable transportation safety requirements.
  • Supply Chain & Vendor Management: Coordinate with external specialized repair facilities, third-party inspectors, component manufacturers, and parts suppliers for optimal automotive procurement.
  • Financial Margin Optimization: Monitor real-time fleet operating costs, fluid fuel consumption, and vehicle lifecycles to identify structural efficiencies and reduce corporate downtime.
  • Quality Assurance Auditing: Conduct regular physical inspections of fleet vehicles to guarantee strict cleanliness, organizational discipline, and peak operating condition.
  • Capital Asset Lifecycle Planning: Assist executive leadership with data-driven research for vehicle purchasing, lifecycle disposal, and strategic asset replacement models.
  • Shop Inventory Logistics: Maintain a precise inventory matrix of automotive tools, shop supplies, commercial truck tires, operational fluids, and high-wear replacement parts.
  • Emergency Field Support Response: Direct immediate field intervention strategies for vehicle breakdowns by coordinating rapid mobile repairs or deploying replacement transit assets.
  • Long-Term Strategy Formulation: Collaborate with executive management to develop sophisticated preventative maintenance calendars and long-term fleet standardization strategies.

What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Professional Fleet Tenure: 3–5 years of verified fleet or heavy-equipment management experience (or equivalent operations/maintenance leadership backgrounds). A preferred profile includes a minimum of 5 years of verified experience in fleet management, vehicle logistics, or closely related commercial automotive and transport management.
  • Maintenance & Diagnostics Competency: Strong foundational knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices, mechanical diagnostics, and structural preventative programs.
  • Software & Systems CMMS Literacy: High proficiency with fleet management software (Telematics/GPS tracking layouts, asset logging systems), computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and the complete MS Office suite.
  • Fiscal Operations Management: Proven experience controlling operating budgets, auditing parts supply chains, and negotiating vendor agreements.
  • Leadership & Organizational Mastery: Excellent organizational, communication, and field leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Asset & Logistics Fluency: General understanding of heavy equipment and industrial truck maintenance and operation. Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or relevant industry certifications is considered a major plus.
  • Personnel Direction: Demonstrated experience supervising mechanics, vehicle technicians, drivers, or general maintenance personnel.

What We Offer (Compensation & Benefits)

We reward logistics precision, leadership accountability, and budget compliance with a comprehensive total rewards framework:

  • Top-Tier Pay Structure: Competitive annual base salary of $100,000.00 – $115,000.00+ customized directly to your transport background, alongside performance incentives.
  • Comprehensive Care Package: Full medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Future Security Framework: Structured corporate 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Work-Life Balance Allocations: Generous framework for earned Paid Time Off (PTO), vacations, and sick days.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Yard & Shop Presence: This position is based primarily at the company yard and operations office but requires daily hands-on interaction with mechanics, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Jobsite Mobility: Complete physical capability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, walk through unpaved construction yards, and move across active jobsites safely.
  • Asset Inspection Agility: Ability to inspect vehicles and transport trailers thoroughly, including climbing on, under, and around commercial trucks and automotive components when necessary.
  • Lifting Capacity: Ability to occasionally lift and move components or supply materials weighing up to 50 pounds safely.
