Machine Repair Technician
Our client is a global manufcturing business with more than a century of manufacturing excellence. Due to continued business growth, increased production volumes, and ongoing investment in manufacturing operations, they are seeking experienced Machine Repair Technicians to join their maintenance team in Hastings, Michigan.
As a Machine Repair Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of industrial manufacturing equipment. This is a multicraft maintenance position requiring strong mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, along with basic experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment. The successful candidate will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns, and support the installation, relocation, and commissioning of production machinery.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and automation-related equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot low- and high-voltage electrical systems, including motors, sensors, relays, contactors, switches, control panels, and power-distribution components.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of PLC-controlled machinery to identify equipment faults and determine when additional automation support is required.
- Install, level, relocate, and assist with commissioning new manufacturing equipment and production machinery.
- Install and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and utility connections for new and relocated equipment.
- Diagnose malfunctioning machinery and work with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams to identify the cause of breakdowns.
- Repair and replace machine components including, Pumps and air motors, bearings, belts, and ball screws, solenoids and actuators, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, conveyors and feeders, clutches and brakes, robots and automated fixtures, packaging equipment, chucks and positioning devices, motors, sensors, switches, and relays.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, blueprints, technical manuals, and machine documentation.
- Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and continuous-improvement projects.
- Assist with root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks within the CMMS.
- Monitor equipment condition and communicate recurring downtime or reliability concerns to Maintenance and Engineering leadership.
- Ensure machinery operates safely and that all guards, safety devices, and interlocks are correctly installed and functioning.
- Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Perform additional machine-repair, maintenance, and facility-support duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and industrial maintenance experience.
- Recognized Machine Repair, Industrial Maintenance, Millwright, or related apprenticeship preferred.
- Federal, State or Union issued Journeyperson Certificate or documented evidence of qualifying machine-repair experience and hours preferred.
- Previous experience as a Machine Repair Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Multicraft Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Mechanic, Machine Builder, Automation Technician, or similar position within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong multicraft maintenance experience covering mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting both low- and high-voltage industrial electrical equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair motors, controls, sensors, relays, switches, contactors, and other machine electrical components.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical power-transmission systems.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Basic knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery and the ability to identify common PLC or automation-related faults.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems.
- Strong understanding of machine guarding, industrial safety requirements, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional maintenance team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Schedule: Various Shifts Available
Rate: $33.00 - $36.36 p/h D.O.E + Shift Premiums
