Director of Materials Management

The Director of Materials Management oversees the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials within the organization. This leadership role focuses on optimizing inventory levels, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining high-quality standards. The Director will develop and implement strategic plans to enhance supply chain efficiency, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and establish strong relationships with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute materials management strategies aligned with organizational goals.

  • Oversee procurement processes to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials.

  • Manage inventory levels to optimize storage and reduce waste.

  • Lead a team of materials management professionals, providing mentorship and support.

  • Collaborate with departments such as production, finance, and quality assurance to streamline operations.

  • Monitor market trends and negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure the best terms.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.

  • Implement and enhance inventory management systems and technologies.

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets and forecasts.

  • Lead and direct the work of other employees within the team. This can include hiring, performance management, and termination.

  • Contribute to strategic planning, direction and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.

  • Establish departmental policies, practices and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor's

  • Education: Typically, a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or another relevant field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.

  • Prior management experience in a similar role.

  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout office and manufacturing environments as needed.

  • Occasional travel between facilities or to supplier locations may be required.

  • Ability to navigate warehouse and production floor environments, including exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.

  • Ability to lift and carry light materials or equipment (up to 25 pounds) on an occasional basis.

  • Visual acuity to review reports, data, and inventory systems.

  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
