PURPOSE /SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Under supervision of the Early Childhood Director and Assistant Directors. This job description is a general outline of the responsibilities of the Early Childhood Educator. It is understood that the Executive office may make additional assignments, as program needs change.

PROGRAMMATIC

  • Understands and follows the staff guidelines and procedures set forth by the Child Development Center
  • Planning and writing the lesson plans for each week within guidelines established by the Director and Assistant Director
  • Willing to train and work within the SHEVA framework for learning
  • Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth
  • Perform on-going developmental evaluations of children and follow curriculum implementation that addresses individual needs of each child
  • Preparing supplies and the environment for activities
  • Maintaining an orderly and clean environment for the group
  • Observing, recording and reporting individual child's behavior.

o Record progress report

o Maintain children’s individual portfolios

o Conduct two parent conferences a school year

  • Maintain classroom portfolio for NAEYC
  • Assisting children with self-care activities
  • Assisting individual children who experience difficulty in the group or who temporarily lose their physical or emotional control
  • Communicating with opposite shift of staff with any information pertinent to the child's day
  • Cooperating with co-workers
  • Assisting with meal and/or snack services
  • Letting the assistant know what capacity you want him/her to work in
  • Understanding and implementing all emergency procedures when necessary
  • Arrange substitutes when needed for you
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Directors
  • Responsible for curriculum development and promoting our program

BUDGET

  • Keeping monthly attendance, lunch and snack service records

DONORS

  • Identify potential donors within the program to your Director or Assistant Director

CLASSES

  • Complete 16 hours of training annually required by state licensing officials

  • Training should include but is not limited to topics such as:

o First aid and CPR

o Health and safety

o Child development

o Supervision and care of children

SUPERVISION

  • Mentor new teachers

  • Supervising play activities by:

o Interacting with the children

o Enforcing safety rules in a positive and consistent manner

o Intervening when children are likely to injure themselves or each other

o Know how many children you have at all times

MARKETING

  • Provide input on any marketing initiatives

COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS

  • Attending all staff meetings as called by the Director and/or Assistant Directors.

MEMBER CARE

  • Exhibiting professionalism at all times by respecting the confidentiality of the children and their families, and by refraining from discussing their own personal lives while in the work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor Degree in early childhood education or child related field or a Child Development Associate degree or Child Development Associate credential
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) to members, guests, and management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records, ability to work independently, set priorities and handle multiple tasks
  • Experience in Windows environments
  • Working knowledge of word, e-mail, and parent communication platform
  • Commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting deadlines
  • Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining a positive and professional attitude/disposition
