Position Overview : We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Interventionist to join our team. The Behavioral Interventionist will work directly with youth participating during our I AM A KEEPER OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME Programs, particularly those engaged in mentoring, group activities, and life-skills workshops. You will play a crucial role in implementing behavior strategies that improve social interactions, enhance emotional regulation, and facilitate goal attainment, all while providing positive and consistent support in school, community, and program settings.

Key Responsibilities :

Direct Support: Provide direct behavioral support to youth in both one-on-one and

group settings, during program activities, mentoring sessions, and potential community

engagements.

Implementation: Assist in implementing individualized behavior intervention plans

(BIPs) tailored to the unique needs and goals of each participant, utilizing positive

reinforcement and evidence-based techniques.

Skill Development : Coach and support youth in developing essential life skills,

including communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and

decision-making.

Collaboration: Work closely with the Program Director, mentors, families, and school staff

(where applicable), and other program staff to coordinate care, monitor progress, and

Data Collection & Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of

behavior data, progress notes, and observations. Generate regular reports to track

outcomes and inform intervention strategies.

Positive Environment: Actively promote a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and encouraging

environment that values each participant's dignity and fosters growth.

Mentorship Support: Offer guidance and support to mentors, assisting them in

understanding and applying behavioral strategies effectively.

Community Engagement: Engage with families and community partners to build

supportive networks around the youth.

Qualifications

Required:

Education: College degree in counseling, social work, psychology, child development,

or a closely related field.

Experience: Proven experience working with children or adolescents, ideally in

mentoring, tutoring, youth programs, counseling, or similar settings.

Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the

ability to build strong rapport, trust, and effective relationships with youth from diverse

backgrounds.

Approach: Patience, empathy, cultural competence, and an asset-based, positive attitude

toward youth growth and development.

Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a

collaborative team.

Other: Reliable transportation to travel within the Highland Park/Detroit area. Ability to

pass a background check and child abuse clearance.

Preferred: Licensure/Certification: Current licensure by the State of Michigan (e.g., LLMSW,

LMSW, LLP, LPC, or related).

Training: Familiarity with trauma-informed practice, restorative justice, and culturally

responsive support models.

Experience: Previous experience specifically in mentoring or out-of-school time (OST)

programs.

Knowledge: Knowledge of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) principles is a plus.
