Production Supervisor (Upholstery/Finishing)

Job Description

RT London is a domestic furniture manufacturer serving the needs of higher education, government contracts, human services, and related markets. We focus on innovative design and outstanding durability. Design, engineering, and manufacturing is all done in-house in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of production processes in the Upholstery and Finishing departments. This role ensures production schedules are met safely, efficiently, and with high quality standards. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills required. Previous experience in production or manufacturing supervision preferred.

Summary

The Production Supervisor oversees daily manufacturing operations across multiple departments in a small-team environment. The Supervisor provides hands-on leadership, supports continuous improvement, and works closely with cross-functional teams to maintain smooth workflow and consistent output.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support a small team of production employees across multiple work areas in our Upholstery and Finishing departments
• Coordinate daily production activities to meet schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements
• Monitor workflow, adjust staffing or assignments as needed, and resolve operational issues
• Train, coach, and develop employees to ensure skill growth and consistent performance
• Enforce safety policies and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
• Conduct routine quality checks and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures
• Collaborate with maintenance to address equipment concerns and minimize downtime
• Track production data, report performance metrics, and recommend process improvements
• Participate in hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions as appropriate
• Communicate effectively with leadership, peers, and other departments to support production goals

Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience in production or manufacturing supervision preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work across multiple departments and manage shifting priorities
• Knowledge of safety practices, quality systems, and production processes
• Basic competency with production software, reporting tools, or ERP systems

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout the shift
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40–50 lbs occasionally
• Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and manual handling of materials
• Ability to climb stairs or ladders as needed to access different work areas
• Visual acuity to read gauges, screens, and inspect materials
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to machinery
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and routine safety requirements
