Cost Engineer – Auburn Hills, MI

Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Duration: 1-Year Contract (Strong potential for extension / additional openings)
Pay Rate: $43.08/hour

Schedule: First Shift (may require flexibility due to global team collaboration with Europe)

Overview

We are actively hiring Cost Engineers to support multiple global automotive programs. This is a high-visibility role working across engineering, purchasing, finance, and supplier teams to develop accurate cost models and support vehicle development from concept through production.

Multiple openings are available across different functional areas based on candidate experience.

Functional Areas

Candidates will be aligned to one of the following teams:

• Body (CEB) – France
• Interior (CEI) – Italy
• Chassis & Engine Systems (CEC) – Italy
• Propulsion (P) – France
• Electrical Systems (CES) – North America

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates for components and tooling using activity-based costing
• Perform “should cost” analysis using bottom-up manufacturing methods
• Analyze bills of materials, engineering drawings, and physical parts
• Support Design-to-Cost initiatives during product development
• Partner with purchasing teams during supplier negotiations and cost breakdown analysis
• Conduct benchmarking and value optimization activities
• Collaborate with global teams including engineering, finance, and suppliers
• Provide cost comparisons and insights across global programs

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive or related industry
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to manage high volumes of parts and complexity
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Ability to work cross-functionally in a global environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with activity-based costing and cost modeling structures
• Background in one or more of the following:
• • Design Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Component Tooling
  • Purchasing / Supplier Costing

Target Candidate Background

• Automotive OEMs such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, or Toyota
• Tier 1 suppliers such as Magna International, Bosch, or Denso
• Engineers with experience in manufacturing, design (with cost exposure), or purchasing
