Job Summary:
· The Buyer is responsible for purchasing raw materials, hardware, services, and outside processing that directly support our manufacturing operations. Raw materials include aluminum and steel (sheet and plate). Outside processing includes coating, plating, heat treating, and other special processes performed by outside vendors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Purchases raw materials (aluminum and steel sheet and plate), hardware, services, and outside processing (coating, plating, heat treating, and other special processes), managing supplier sourcing, pricing, lead times, and availability.
· Assists in sourcing and evaluating suppliers to support quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
· Supports pricing and terms discussions with suppliers, including service centers and component vendors.
· Issues and manages purchase orders, monitors delivery schedules, and proactively follows up on shortages or delays.
· Partners with Scheduling, production, engineering, and quality teams to align material supply with manufacturing requirements.
· Supports supplier performance tracking and assists with follow-up on delivery or quality issues.
· Maintains accurate procurement and supplier data within ERP and related tracking systems.
· Supports cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Learns and follows compliance requirements including ITAR and ISO 9001 where applicable.
· Develops awareness of raw material market conditions, supplier capacity, and cost drivers.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
· Exposure to purchasing or procurement in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
· Familiarity with or interest in metals, hardware, services, or outside processing (coating, plating, heat treating, and other special processes) is a plus.
· Basic understanding of or eagerness to learn supplier sourcing, vendor management, and cost analysis.
· Ability to manage supplier relationships beyond basic PO processing.
· Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a team-oriented attitude.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Detail-oriented and execution-focused.
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree : Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
· 0–2 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience.
· Experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to sit for extended periods at a workstation.
· Ability to use a computer and phone for the majority of the workday.
· Occasional lifting of materials or office supplies up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to walk the production floor as needed.
