Position Details:



Title: Laboratory Technician – Surface Treatment

Position Type: 3 month contract with additional opportunity contingent upon performance and continued business need

Job Location : Madison Heights, MI

Shift: 1st Shift

Compensation: $28/HR



Responsibilities:

• Review and interpret complex customer requests and projects, providing sound technical and design advice to customers, field sales representatives, and Henkel personnel.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure progress aligns with established timelines.
• Support customer projects with occasional travel (5–10%).
• Prepare chemical baths, process panels, apply paint, and operate analytical equipment such as a Scanning Electron Microscope.
• Conduct quality control checks on chemical baths, electrocoats, purge solvents, and metal-pretreated panels.
• Handle and move chemical containers up to approximately 55 lbs.
• Utilize and expand knowledge of the Henkel Sales System (SAP ACE), ensuring projects are accurately tracked and reported.
• Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing project activities, progress, and issues.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe laboratory environments, including equipment maintenance and calibration, chemical labeling, and compliance with safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of project work, technical data, and competitor information.
• Purchase laboratory equipment, project-specific materials, and general supplies as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• 5+ years of laboratory experience preferred.
• Experience with surface treatment processes preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to write clear, detailed technical reports.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with word processing, graphics, and spreadsheet software.
