Welding Engineer – Direct Hire

Location: Grand Ledge, MI

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1st Shift

Compensation: $70,000–$90,000 base salary

Additional Compensation: 8% annual bonus and straight-time overtime after 50 hours

Position Overview

We are seeking a Welding Engineer to support, improve, and maintain both manual and automated welding systems in a manufacturing environment. This role works closely with Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Quality teams to ensure weld integrity, process reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a full-time, salaried, direct-hire position reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Manufacturing and Maintenance teams to diagnose and resolve welding system issues
• Program, support, and maintain:
• Robotic welding systems
• Pedestal welders
• Other welding-related equipment
• Support the Quality Assurance team to maintain welding integrity and compliance
• Train, coach, and mentor weld engineers, manufacturing personnel, and skilled trades
• Lead and participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities, including:
• 8D reports
• Corrective action reviews
• Departmental and cross-functional meetings
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to welding processes and equipment

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Technology, or a related field

OR

• 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Hands-on experience with both manual and automated welding processes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Highly Desired Technical Skills

• Resistance Spot Welding
• Drawn Arc Stud Welding
• Adhesive and sealer dispensing systems (Nordson, Johnstone)
• Dispenser vision systems (Coherix)
• Weld timers (WTC, Bosch)
• Robotic programming experience with Fanuc and Motoman/Yaskawa
• Weld power sources, wire feeders, torches, and reamers
• Plasma cutting, grinding, and weld rework applications
• Weld shielding gas technologies
• Electrical enclosures and power requirements for welding systems

Additional Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of customer welding specifications and testing requirements
• Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
• Experience supporting production environments with high uptime expectations
