We are seeking a Product Engineer to optimize automotive interior trim manufacturing processes. The role focuses on improving product quality, reducing waste and scrap, increasing production efficiency and capacity, and supporting design-for-manufacturing for door panels, instrument panels and related interior components. The Product Engineer will lead design reviews, implement APQP and MTM methods, coordinate with suppliers, and introduce new assembly equipment and material handling solutions while ensuring occupational health and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead value analysis and design-for-manufacturing initiatives for interior trim components including door panels and instrument panels.
  • Conduct design reviews with product engineering, suppliers and manufacturing to identify cost, quality and assembly improvements.
  • Develop and implement APQP plans and advanced product quality controls for new and existing products.
  • Analyze process flows, perform Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) studies and formulate standard work to improve cycle times and capacity.
  • Specify, evaluate and support deployment of new assembly equipment and material handling systems to increase efficiency and reduce scrap.
  • Work with production control to plan capacity, balance lines and support production ramp-ups and updates.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues, optimize part designs and ensure timely supply of components.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce waste, decrease scrap rates and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Maintain and update process documentation, control plans, work instructions and safety risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with OHS and company safety standards, and support occupational health and safety initiatives on the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in automotive manufacturing with direct exposure to interior trim (door panels, instrument panels) preferred.
  • Strong background in manufacturing engineering, product engineering or process engineering.
  • Practical experience with APQP, control plans and design review processes.
  • Experience with Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) or similar time-study techniques and process flow optimization.
  • Proven track record of reducing scrap, improving efficiency and increasing production capacity.
  • Familiarity with new assembly equipment selection, material handling systems and production control practices.
  • Experience working with suppliers on design improvements and quality issues.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and ability to incorporate safety into process designs.
