Purchasing Manager

Since its inception in 1908, Upper Peninsula Telephone Company (UPTC) has undergone several transformations, culminating in its integration into MachTen Inc. in 2023. MachTen is the publicly traded holding company for Michigan Broadband Services, whose subsidiaries include Upper Peninsula Telephone Company, Michigan Central Broadband Company, and Alpha Enterprises Ltd. 

Due to the extensive and continuous growth of Michigan Broadband Services, we are currently seeking to fill the newly created role of Purchasing Manager. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and strategic, as their primary responsibility will be to oversee the purchase of goods and services according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures, for all company divisions.

This jobs primary location is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With our Corporate Office located in Carney, candidates from the Escanaba, Iron Mountain, and Marquette areas are encouraged to apply.

Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously


• Knowledge of telecommunications industry and supply chain dynamics


• Familiarity with relevant industry specific regulations and compliance requirements


• Strong leadership and team management skills


• Effective negotiating skills


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment


• Solid understanding of telecom products, including fiber optics, network infrastructure, wireless systems, and related technologies preferred

Responsibilities

• Review and process purchase orders


• Track inventory and restock as needed to ensure project schedules are met


• Work directly with management to optimize direct and indirect spend


• Oversee other members of the purchasing team


• Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and payment terms


• Ensure all purchases are consistent with company policy


• Look for opportunities for cost reductions

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, operations management, or related field preferred
