Job Title: SolidWorks Design Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on transforming customer challenges into innovative, manufacturable product designs using SolidWorks and related tools. The SolidWorks Design Engineer creates accurate customer quotes, owns the full delivery of component solutions, and collaborates closely with sales and engineering teams to integrate new products into larger systems. The position also supports the development of engineering best practices and mentors other engineers to strengthen the overall capability of the team.
Responsibilities

Translate customer problems and requirements into practical, manufacturable product design solutions.

Create detailed customer quotes that clearly define scope, timing, and cost for designed components.

Own the delivery of assigned component solutions from concept through completion, ensuring cost, fit, function, and timing targets are met.

Collaborate closely with Sales Engineers to incorporate new products and components into broader solutions and system designs.

Use SolidWorks and related tools to develop 3D models, drawings, and documentation for sheet metal, metal bending, and fabricated components.

Apply FEA/CAE tools and simulation techniques to perform load testing and design simulations, verifying performance and structural integrity.

Support the creation and maintenance of mechanical engineering best practices, standards, and design guidelines.

Coach and mentor engineers in the department on processes, SolidWorks usage, and engineering excellence to develop the capability of the team.

Work with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and sales, to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with customer needs.

Participate in discussions and calls with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, present design concepts, and address technical questions.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes, documentation, and engineering tools.
Essential Skills

5+ years of experience designing in SolidWorks, or extensive design experience in another CAD software with familiarity in SolidWorks.

Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling for mechanical and sheet metal design.

Hands-on experience with sheet metal design, metal bending, fabrication, in stamping.

Experience using FEA/CAE tools for simulation, including load testing and design simulations.

Ability to translate customer requirements into detailed, manufacturable designs and accurate quotes.

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles related to structural design, materials, and manufacturability.

Capability to manage multiple projects or components from concept through completion while meeting cost, fit, function, and timing objectives.

Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with Sales Engineers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Experience working with OEMs is beneficial.

Familiarity with steel design and sheet metal fabrication processes.

Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD tools in addition to SolidWorks.

Prior involvement in establishing or maintaining mechanical engineering best practices and standards.

Experience coaching or mentoring other engineers on tools, processes, and engineering methodologies.
Work Environment
You will work as part of a small engineering team of approximately six to seven people in an office cubicle setting within a large manufacturing facility of about 130,000 square feet. The environment combines office-based design work with close proximity to manufacturing operations, providing regular exposure to real-world applications of your designs. You will collaborate frequently with the sales team and participate in customer discussions and calls as needed. The organization supports a variety of markets, including HVAC, telecommunications, logistics, automotive, and skilled trades, offering exposure to diverse projects and applications. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Temperance, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $49.00/hr.
