PK Teacher

Position Summary:

Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School is seeking to fill the position with a candidate that is a team player possessing flexibility and an unwavering commitment to -students’ academic and spiritual development. The teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The teacher is immediately responsible to the Principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of Detroit as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.

All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
All teachers who are catechists (teachers of religion) must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools. The PK position requires, but is not limited to:

• Designing instruction for 4-year old preschool students using developmentally appropriate materials and methods

• Collaborating with our PK team to design and implement instructional strategies

• Apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners in a learner-centered and collaborative environment

• Manage student behavior in using Education in Virtue and in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, using a positive and proactive management system

Professional Requirements:

• Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, staff and community members

• Support parents as the primary catechists and educators for their children through relational ministry, resources, and tools

• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
