Pay: $30.00-35.00 per hour

Job Summary

The Building Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all building systems. This role supports building operations through hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and coordination with contractors, while ensuring occupant comfort, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems

• Respond to work orders, service requests, and building emergencies

• Perform and assist with preventive and corrective maintenance programs

• Maintain accurate records for maintenance, inspections, and compliance

• Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors for repairs and installations

• Support utility monitoring, energy efficiency initiatives, and cost control

• Assist with tenant improvements, inspections, and construction coordination

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

• Follow all safety procedures, codes, and regulations

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Required: 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License | City of Detroit

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining commercial building systems

• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems

• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

• Proficient with hand and power tools, meters, and testing equipment

• Experience with CMMS systems and basic computer applications preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and at heights

• Lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs with assistance

• Work near mechanical equipment, loud environments, and varying weather conditions

• Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
