Job Description
The Global Physical Security (GPS) System Team oversees physical security technology across Oracle and OCI data centers worldwide. We are seeking a highly experienced Network Planning Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and optimization of critical network infrastructure for Physical Security Systems within Oracle Cloud datacenter sites. This pivotal role partners with cross-functional teams to drive capacity, ensure high availability, and implement scalable, energy-efficient network solutions that comply with Oracle's rigorous security and operational standards.
The Network Planning Engineer will architect, monitor, and support secure network environments both physical and virtual while leading a team responsible for real-time operations, capacity management, and continuous improvement of our physical security network footprint. This role also encompasses strategy, process innovation, stakeholder management, and the regular evaluation of new technologies to advance Oracle's position as a leader in securing cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Budgets and Efficiency:
Lead the implementation of energy-efficient solutions to optimize network and infrastructure design, minimizing loss and environmental impact.
Evaluate and consult on the efficiency of self-build programs and solutions.
Articulate architectural tradeoffs regarding feasibility, performance, cost, risk, and schedule to drive upgrades and efficiency improvements.
Leverage cross-functional knowledge to guide team decisions and activities.
Infrastructure Design, Delivery, and Capacity Planning:
Drive the delivery of scalable network capacity for Global Physical Security, collaborating across Design & Construction, and Operations to ensure on-time project execution.
Guide the Network architects toward maintainable solutions to enable and automate capacity planning and infrastructure monitoring services.
Collaborate with the Network design and management team known as FAN for data center network infrastructure, including support for physical security systems and the related cloud network environments which management services reside (routers, switches, cabling, VCNs, VPN tunnels, Fast Connect, etc.).
Infrastructure Support, Emergencies, and Optimization:
Support build and construction-related network response protocols which test and validate network functionality.
Guide network related incident response, root-cause analysis, and ongoing cross domain network reliability improvements.
Innovation and Thought Leadership:
Lead research into new designs and methods for network and physical security network hardware, targeting improvements in efficiency, and rapid scaling for emerging requirements.
Drive the identification and deployment of new monitoring tools, technologies, and architectures.
Promote process optimization and continuous improvement in network utilization.
Quality Assurance and Standardization:
Oversee a team performing documentation, review, and maintenance of design standards, site documentation, requests for RFI/RFP/RFQ, and quality benchmarks.
Supervise adherence to global data center networking standards, including whitespace and cooling standards.
Stakeholder/Partner Management:
Lead communications with internal and external stakeholders to align objectives, requirements, and standards.
Champion cross-functional collaboration with hardware development, engineering, and colocation providers.
Team Development and Performance:
Manage three direct reports, ensuring alignment with organizational goals through clear success criteria (e.g., OKRs, KPIs).
Guide professional growth, talent assessment, interviewing, and hiring.
Foster a collaborative environment focused on innovation, development, and continuous improvement.
Planning, Execution & Continuous Improvement:
Manage timelines, deliverables, and budgets for mission-critical, high-impact projects or initiatives.
Anticipate and plan for changing business priorities and resource requirements, ensuring optimal and timely outcomes.
Serve as a subject matter expert, mentor, and driver of continuous learning and industry best practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES:
3+ years of experience in a leadership role (with or without direct reports).Professional Engineer Certification.
10+ years of specific experience in large-scale/cloud network planning and design, including experience with physical and virtual networking technologies, capacity delivery, and security requirements.Deep understanding of Virtual Cloud Networks (VCNs), Fast Connect, VPN tunnel configuration, and multi-cloud networking.
Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible), network troubleshooting, and process optimization.
Strong partner management and communication skills, with experience influencing at all levels.
Proven ability to lead high-impact initiatives, mentor technical teams, and drive adoption of new solutions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive global networking, backbone, or edge networking experience, preferably with a major cloud provider.
Proficiency with advanced automation, monitoring, and troubleshooting tools.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Networking Certified Professional (1Z0-1125-1) or equivalent cloud/network certification.
Strong record of patent generation, conference participation, or research contributions.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY, IMPACT OF DECISIONS, AND DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:
This global leadership role, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Automation, and is responsible for three direct reports and the delivery and operational excellence of Oracle's physical security network infrastructure. Actions and decisions in this role have a direct and material impact on security, efficiency, capacity, and scalability of Oracle's cloud infrastructure, with occasional travel required to support projects. This is a new role with significant autonomy and is expected to influence technical direction, standards, and outcomes across the organization.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $120,100 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
