DTE Biomass Energy (DTEBE) develops, owns and operates renewable energy projects throughout the United States. Our company converts biogas generated at landfills and at dairy farms into clean, renewable electricity or renewable natural gas (RNG). As a leader in this industry, with more than 20 operating facilities stretching from North Carolina to California, we have the proven capabilities to help provide communities with safe, environmentally sound renewable energy. Headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, DTE Biomass Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of DTE Energy. DTEBE has an immediate opening at our facility below.
Westside Gas Producers, LLC is a landfill gas to renewable natural gas (RNG) processing facility that utilizes landfill gas at the Waste Management landfill in Three Rivers, MI. The facility has an inlet capacity is 4.5 MMSCFD and utilizes the Krysol process to purify landfill gas into pipeline quality gas. WSD operations are responsible for GCCS maintenance and expansion. The pay range for this position is $36.90- $48.58 .
Job Summary
Location: Three Rivers, MI
This position is responsible for executing maintenance and operating gas processing facilities that upgrade raw biogas from various sources into renewable natural gas that is ultimately injected into a natural gas pipeline. The RNG business line is expanding rapidly and provides advancement opportunities for individuals who excel. The IC&E Technician reports directly to the Plant Manager and maintains a matrixed relationship with the Controls Manager. This position may involve duties related to the maintenance of a DOT-regulated pipeline, and employment will require compliance with random drug screening as specified by DOT PHMSA regulations.
Key Accountabilities
Executes maintenance on compressors, pipelines, conduct electrical troubleshooting, create operational reports, and safely operating a complex renewable natural gas processing plant while maximizing profitability
- Attention to detail, especially with the correct metering of renewable gas, will be critical to success
- Safely, ethically, and profitably operate the equipment necessary for the processing and transportation of gas produced from eight dairy manure digesters into pipeline quality gas
- Calibrates tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and installs all power plant instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment
- Performs maintenance on motor control centers, motor operated valves, generators, excitation equipment and motors
- Designs and install new equipment and/or system modifications
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on DC backup power equipment, process controls, programmable logic controls (PLC) and emission monitoring equipment
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor contractors on specific tasks as required
- Identify safety hazards and recommend solutions
- Follow environmental compliance work practices; identify non-compliance problems and assist in implementing solutions
- Train other team members in the areas of instrumentation, control, and electrical systems
- Perform housekeeping assignments as directed
- Perform equipment safety inspections as required and record results as appropriate
- Participate in small construction projects. Read and interpret drawings, sketches, prints and specifications as required
- Order parts as needed to affect maintenance and repair
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Perform Operations tasks on an as-needed basis and other tasks as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
- At least 5 years of industrial experience and/or Electrician experience, showing continuous skill advancement
- Solid background in instrumentation and controls – flow meters, control valves, PLC, calibration, VFD, 4-20 mA signals, gas chromatographs, etc.
- Safety background/understanding – Understanding of OSHA requirements, developing a good safety culture, and implementing safety improvements

- Talk and hear in noisy environments; use hands and fingers; handle and feel; and able to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally operate over the road vehicles, mobile equipment and/or UTV.
- Be clean shaven when tight fitting respiratory protection is required (except mustaches that are above the lower lip and do not affect the respirator seal).
- Wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to, respiratory protection, personal fall arrest equipment, flame resistant clothing, arc rated apparel, etc.
- Possess the following vision requirements: close, color, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold.
- Occasionally be exposed to chemical substances which require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Occasionally be exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall arrest system (harness/lifeline).
- Be in a work environment where the noise level may occasionally be moderate to high, requiring use of hearing protection.
