Dietary Manager
Full-Time - 7:30a -4:00p

In 2004, in an ambitious push to bring hospitality back to the hospital, a small group of top Metro-Detroit surgeons decided to create their own surgical hospital; one that provided patients with the best possible care in a small, easy-to-manage environment that truly embraces the best patient experience. Our highly skilled surgeons and staff play a key role in our success rates and becoming the premier center of choice with 30 surgical beds, 26 rehabilitation beds, and 6 operating rooms.
Role/Position Definition: Prepares, seasons and cooks food for hospital patients, employees and visitors.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
- Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- At least two years managerial experience in a hospital setting.
- Licensure/Certification
- Serve Safe Manager Certification
- Dietary Manager Certification (CDM) required.
- SERV Safe Manager Certification required.
- As Registered Dietician that holds credentials met by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) preferred.
3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Manual Dexterity and skill with motor movement and hand coordination in performance.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Work Environment:
- Works in well lightened/ventilated areas.
- Standing, sitting and moving intermittently throughout the facility.
- Subject to infectious diseases.
- Standing, bending, stooping, stretching and extensive walking.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workdays to gather supplies, equipment, etc.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to lift 40+ lbs. -- Upper extremity.
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Must be able to deal with multiple requests, demands and time frames.
- The position is subject to interruptions.
- Willing to work beyond normal working hours and shift.
- Willing to work in a variety of locations/projects.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and ability to work effectively with patients, personnel and non-hospital employed individuals.
- Purchasing, storing, receiving and issuing food and supplies.
- High quality and accuracy of food preparation and service for Regular and Modified diets.
- High standards of housekeeping and sanitation in the Dietary Department.
- Conducts on-the-job training for all Dietary employees.
- Interviews, hires and prepares work schedules for all Dietary employees.
- Prepares and administers operating and capital budget established for Dietary department.
- Finalizes accounting reports and monthly inventories.
- Performs all dietary employees counseling and terminates employees when and if necessary.
- Provides in-service education programs for employees.
- Orientation program for all new employees.
- Establishes a close working relationship with all employees.
- Interacts with other Hospital departments in setting up procedures, policies and problem-solving as they relate to patient food service and therapeutics.
- Participates in committees as required by Hospital.
- Responsible for complying with all State, Federal and accrediting regulations which govern the Dietary Department.
- Develops and keeps current with the clinical programs in the Hospital.
- Ensures coordination between Dietary office/tray line areas.
- Responsible for maintaining direct patient/dietician contact and documentation of patient/ resident visitations.
- Interacts with outside related community groups.
- Responsible for QA reports and correspondence with QA Director.
- Comply with hospital/department rules and regulations.
- Shows proper concern and reports general dietary needs.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Adheres to dress code established by Hospital and department.
- At all times, presents positive customer relations
- Attends all required in-services annually (Fire/Safety/Disaster and Infection Control, etc.)
- Reports to work on time. Adheres to the hospital attendance policy.
- Responds appropriately to Hospital emergency procedures.
- Other duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed.
- Immediately reports any equipment failure to Supervisor.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
