Systems Project Engineer

: Location: Kalamazoo, MI Job Id: 294 The Systems Project Engineer is responsible for the evaluation, layout, and design of complex systems within the sales team and directing the activities of the design team. This role will focus on systems but support detailed proposals for all company products, while managing the most complex projects through start-up. The position requires managing multiple tasks and priorities continuously with regular interaction with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure projects are executed in accordance with the defined scope, budget, and schedule requirements. Qualifications

• Strong mechanical ability with experience in equipment layout and design.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Cost estimating experience is desirable.
• Experience in machine design and/or processing equipment layout is preferred.
• Experience in the bulk material handling and processing industry preferred.
• Ability to work with designers and provide detailed direction as required.
• Proficiency in 2D drawing and 3D modeling.
• Working knowledge of Windows, MS Word, Excel, Project Management and CRM software.
• Must have a confident, professional demeanor and an eagerness to assist all customers (internal and external).
• Dedication to excellence and high-quality output.
• Must be responsible and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Engineering Technology.
• PMP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Offer detailed technical support, including layout drawings/models and evaluation of customer RFQs, in coordination with the systems and product sales team.
• Interface directly with customers and internal sales and engineering teams to fully develop customer applications and complete designs and layouts.
• Perform sizing and costing for complex equipment and maintain general knowledge of the full company product portfolio.
• Coordinate with vendors/purchasing on large buyout items for initial quotation then to ensure quality and conformance to project objectives and schedule after a sale.
• For the most complicated systems, serve as the Project Manager and primary customer contact from the time the order is placed until the equipment is commissioned and customer needs have been fully satisfied.
• Ensure that all documentation required by the customer is provided as per the required format and schedule.
• Track all critical path items and provide routine status reports to external and internal customers.
• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential problems, and devise contingency plans, issuing change orders when required.
• Design processing systems and produce relevant drawings and documents.
• Coordinate with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departments for detailed equipment and electrical design.
• Review the equipment before it ships to ensure all items have been covered and provide the best quality possible.
• Coordinate with installation contractors and customer service for any field work required.
• Working with the sales team create concepts for targeted Product Development and support generating NPD project charters.
• Manage NPD projects similar to major systems when assigned.
• Occasionally travel up to once per month.
