Program Director, The Jewish Fund

The Jewish Fund is a grant making organization established in 1997 from the sale proceeds of Sinai Hospital to the Detroit Medical Center. Sinai Hospital was a Jewish community funded facility that grew into one of metropolitan Detroit’s top heath care institutions. As a legacy of Sinai Hospital, The Jewish Fund continues the tradition of assuring quality and compassionate care for those in need in Metropolitan Detroit by awarding grants to help vulnerable individuals improve their health and human condition. Position Summary
The foundation’s Program Director will play a crucial role, acting as a bridge between The Fund and those we support. The individual will be responsible for implementing and monitoring our grantmaking programs, ensuring alignment with the foundation's overall mission and goals while nurturing a supportive relationship. The work involves a range of activities, including reviewing and researching funding proposals, conducting site visits, and providing technical assistance to grant partners. We anticipate the Program Director will also interface with the Board regarding grant requests and progress moving forward. Key Responsibilities
1. Program Development and Strategy :
- Stay informed about trends, best practices, and emerging issues in the foundation's focus areas.
- Work with the Executive Director in the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that enhance the foundation’s impact.
- Identify potential applicants and cultivate relationships with organizations working in The Fund’s priority areas.
- Review grant proposals, assess their alignment with the foundation's priorities, and make funding recommendations.
- Staff the task forces and engage board members throughout the review process.
- Conduct site visits with board members to assess positive alignment with The Fund.
- Provide technical assistance and be helpful to ensure that programs are meeting their goals.
- Participate in funder collaboratives, representing The Fund when deemed valuable.
- Contribute to the evaluation of grant programs, assess their impact and identify areas for improvement. This may involve connecting grant partners to consultants and/or institutions who evaluate non-profit organizations.
- This is not an entry level position. Seeking a professional with 7-10 years of related professional experience with nonprofits and/or philanthropy.
- Knowledge and experience with the local Jewish community and public health needs and services.
- Strong project management skills, with demonstrated success in managing a dynamic portfolio of grant partners or other stakeholders.
- Experience managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines, with strong organizational capabilities and a positive attitude.
- Excels at relationship building and creating connections with diverse people across a variety of settings.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, written and verbal presentations.
- Experience with principles and practices of monitoring, evaluation and learning to support organizational analysis, planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Familiarity and enthusiasm for working within databases, project management systems, and collaboration applications.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications;
The salary for this position has a range of $78,000 - $94,500 annually, based upon a 36 hour work week. A work week of 30 hours is also an option. The Jewish Fund operates with a management fee agreement with the Jewish Federation and its employees are on the payroll of the Federation, while working independently for The Fund. The position offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, Flexible Spending Account, PTO, and a 403(b) with an employer match. In Person Work Expectations
This position requires working in-person a minimum of two days per week at The Fund’s office in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Attendance at additional external in-person foundation events or meetings is expected, which are typically during normal business hours. Participation in related professional development opportunities is also expected and supported.
