General Surgery Program Director in Lansing, Michigan

McLaren Greater Lansing is recruiting a Program Director for their General Surgery Residency in Lansing, Michigan.

  1. The Program Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the General Surgery residency program to ensure high quality education with a comprehensive curriculum.
  2. This individual has the authority and accountability for the operations of the program and ensuring that all training meets accreditation standards, with the assistance of the Chief Resident and Program Coordinator.
  3. The Program Director is expected to support and actively promote McLaren Health Care Corporation's mission to be the best value in health care as defined by quality outcomes and cost.
  4. Program Director will work with 15 sponsored residents, a variety of rotating residents and medical students.
  5. Approximately 50% admin, 50% clinical; there is flexibility on this.
  6. Work in brand new outpatient residency clinic located onsite at McLaren Greater Lansing.

Responsibilities:

  1. To serve as Director of the training program with all the responsibilities which come with this title, as stated in the ACGME Program Requirements.

  1. Primarily responsible for ensuring compliance of the program (and its participants) with accreditation standards, hospital policies and procedures, State of Michigan and Federal regulations, and GME policies and procedures as established by the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), including due process and grievance procedures.

  1. Responsible for preparing and distributing the annual program description and manual.

  1. Identifies, recruits, interviews, evaluates, and recommends residency program candidates to the Department of Medical Education, via the development of a Rank List.

  1. Orients residents to the training program, as well as the requirements of the current accrediting specialty college.

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited medical school.

• Must be licensed to practice medicine by the State of Michigan.

• Must possess the required specialty expertise, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities, to carry out the responsibilities of the role and to achieve the goals and objectives of the program and acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee (RC).

• Current certification by the American Board of General Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery.

• Demonstrate clinical competency as a practicing physician.

• Must be, or become, a member in good standing to the McLaren Greater Lansing medical staff.

• Must have unrestricted credentials within the Department of General Surgery of McLaren Greater Lansing, or have the appropriate qualifications for such credentials.

Preferred:

• Minimum five years of clinical experience in General Surgery, with three years as a core faculty member in an ACGME accredited General Surgery residency program.

Facility Highlights

McLaren Greater Lansing is a tertiary teaching facility with 240 acute care beds, located in Lansing, Michigan on the southern edge of the Michigan State University campus. McLaren Greater Lansing moved to the new state-of-the-art hospital building located at the new health care campus on March 6, 2022. Among its services are a Level III Designated Trauma Center/Emergency Department, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute, comprehensive cardiac programs, medical/surgical units, and state-of-the-art women and children’s health services including a modern birthing center. Also located at the healthcare campus is the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing and Outpatient Care Center.

Residency programs are affiliated with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and the Statewide Campus System. Residencies include family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, anesthesiology, and obstetrics/gynecology. Fellowships are offered in cardiology, hematology/oncology, gastroenterology, and pulmonary critical care. McLaren Greater Lansing also participates in city-wide residency programs in emergency medicine, neurology, urology, psychiatry, and physical and rehabilitation medicine.
