Abonmarche is seeking a Grant & Development Specialist in our Benton Harbor, MI office.

Job Summary:

The Grant & Development Specialist will focus primarily on grant research, writing, and administration to help fund community-driven projects, while also supporting client engagement and internal coordination. This hybrid role will work closely with our grant administrator, business development director, internal team, and municipal clients.

We’re looking for someone who can manage details, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly—with both funding agencies and our clients. You’ll play a central role in turning good ideas into real, funded projects—and helping ensure nothing falls through the cracks along the way.

Responsibilities:

Grant Writing & Administration

  • Research and prepare grant applications for infrastructure, planning, and development projects
  • Coordinate with internal teams (engineers, architects, planners, etc.) to gather project estimates, concept drawings, timelines, and other supporting documents
  • Draft grant narratives, maintenance plans, project team bios, and environmental documents
  • Manage pre-application tasks like SHPO outreach, UEI/SAM/SIGMA registration, boundary maps, and legal descriptions
  • Support clients in navigating grant paperwork and required submissions
  • Administer grants after award: track progress, submit reports and reimbursement requests, request amendments or extensions, and monitor deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with grant scope and bid requirements
  • Draft proposals or letters following grant award

Business Development Support

  • Attend meetings with the Business Development Director to track action items and follow up with both clients and internal staff
  • Draft memos, white papers, or letters of interest based on early client discussions
  • Notify clients of new funding opportunities that align with their goals
  • Help prep for strategy sessions, trade shows, and conferences
  • Track and update records of client meetings, grant progress, and BD activity
  • Attend public meetings (city councils, township boards, DDAs, planning commissions, etc.) to identify emerging needs or potential project ideas
  • Provide internal reporting on grant and business development activity

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with the grant administrator to manage grant timelines, updates, and documentation
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to support proposal packaging and presentation materials (no design responsibility)

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Planning or related field.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
• None

Work Experience/Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in grant writing, grant administration, or community development preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Experience with public infrastructure, local government, or state/federal grant systems is a plus.
• Comfortable working with clients and attending public meetings.
