Prin Platform Engineer

Location: This position is onsite at One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, Michigan. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
Principal Platform Engineers have expert knowledge of hardware and software platforms to maintain and improve current platforms and design new systems and technologies. They work closely with leadership, business, and technical teams to define platform roadmaps and build business cases that support company goals and strategies. Principal Platform Engineers are expected to lead large-scale projects and ensure alignment with operational metrics. They help define platform standards and best practices to ensure high-quality, reliable systems, speed to delivery, and optimum performance at low cost.
SAP is the digital core of company operations. The purpose of the SAP Platform Team (a.k.a., SAP BASIS) is to provide a stable, reliable, secure and high-performing SAP platform to support the company’s critical business applications. The team comprises SAP system administrators supporting day-to-day operations and SAP build activities in a highly complex, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. SAP applications supported include ECC (ERP Central Component), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), PO (Process Orchestration), Enterprise Portal, BW (Business Warehouse), BOBJ (Business Objects), DQM (Data Quality Manager), and Solution Manager among others. Additionally, the SAP HANA database is supported by this team. SAP BASIS system administration experience is a must for this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Define the roadmap for infrastructure and platform services.
• Assist with long-term financial planning for ongoing operational costs and business case creation.
• Lead large-scale cloud migrations and/or platform implementation/modernization projects.
• Ensure compliance with company architecture and security standards.
• Guide technology decision-making and mentor other engineers.
• Collaborate with leadership to align strategy with business goals.
• Collaborate well with other company and vendor teams to ensure alignment regarding platform direction and roadmap.
• Lead efforts to break down highly complex problems that require multiple teams and create plans for remediation.
• Support vendor negotiations for purchases and renewals.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related field with seven (7) or more years of experience managing and/or maintaining enterprise platforms or services.
o (OR) Associate’s degree in a related field with nine (9) or more years of experience managing and/or maintaining enterprise platforms or services.
o (OR) High school diploma/GED with eleven (11) or more years of experience managing and/or maintaining enterprise platforms or services.
