Senior Exterior Materials & Finishes Designer
Job Description
Job Description
Mosher Design Co. | High-End Residential Landscape Architecture
Mosher Design Co. is seeking a highly design-driven professional to lead material and finish selections for luxury outdoor environments . This role is ideal for an interior designer or architectural designer who has a refined eye for materials and wants to apply that expertise beyond the walls of the home.
You will be responsible for curating cohesive, elevated material palettes across patios, pools, outdoor kitchens, fire features, pool houses, and full exterior environments —ensuring every project feels intentional, timeless, and fully integrated with the architecture.
About the Role
At Mosher Design Co., we believe the exterior of a home should feel as considered and layered as the interior. This role bridges that gap.
You will work closely with our design team to translate conceptual designs into fully resolved material palettes , guiding clients through selections that balance aesthetics, performance, and budget.
This is not a drafting role—it is a design leadership position focused on taste, cohesion, and decision-making .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead material and finish selection for high-end residential exterior projects
- Develop cohesive palettes across hardscape, architectural features, and site elements
- Select and specify materials including:
- Natural stone, porcelain, brick, and concrete finishes
- Pool finishes, coping, and waterline tile
- Outdoor cabinetry, countertops, and appliances
- Fire feature materials and detailing
- Pool house and accessory structure finishes (siding, roofing, trim, etc.)
- Ensure all selections align with the architecture, site context, and client lifestyle
- Collaborate with landscape architects, architects, and project managers
- Prepare presentation boards and client-facing selection packages
- Source materials from vendors and coordinate samples
- Maintain awareness of current trends, products, and performance standards
What We’re Looking For
- Background in interior design, architecture, or high-end residential design
- Strong, proven ability in material and finish selection
- A refined design sensibility with a portfolio that demonstrates taste and restraint
- Deep understanding of color, texture, scale, and material relationships
- Ability to design across styles—from clean modern to timeless traditional
- Knowledge of exterior materials and their performance (or strong willingness to learn)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication skills with clients and internal teams
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on luxury residential projects
- Familiarity with brands and materials such as:
- Natural stone (limestone, bluestone, travertine, etc.)
- Porcelain paving systems
- High-end outdoor kitchen and pool products
- Experience creating client-facing design presentations
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
Why Mosher Design Co.
- Work on some of the most detailed and design-forward residential projects in the region
- Be part of a team that values design excellence, not just production
- Opportunity to shape the material identity of high-end outdoor spaces
- Collaborative, design-driven culture with strong growth trajectory
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Performance-based incentives
- Benefits package (to be discussed)
- Opportunity for long-term growth within the firm
To Apply
Please submit:
- Resume
- Portfolio (required) showcasing material and finish selections
- Brief note on your design approach
If you have a strong eye for materials and want to push beyond interiors into fully realized outdoor environments, this is a unique opportunity to do so at a high level.
