Our client, an established and respected manufacturer in the Muskegon, MI area, is seeking a full-time Quality Engineer to join their team on a direct hire basis. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that quality systems and processes are robust, compliant, and continuously improving. The successful candidate will contribute directly to maintaining product and process integrity while supporting customer satisfaction and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate daily quality activities to ensure effective product flow and consistent quality performance across production lines.
- Develop and deliver training programs in quality systems, statistical process control (SPC), gaging techniques, and corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve quality procedures, work instructions, inspection methods, and standards to meet both internal requirements and customer-specific expectations.
- Lead and support problem-solving initiatives, including root cause analysis, data collection, and team-based resolution strategies.
- Collaborate with customers to address and resolve quality issues and uphold satisfaction standards.
- Conduct supplier audits, review PPAP documentation, and work with vendors to meet quality expectations in alignment with AIAG guidelines.
- Lead and participate in internal quality system audits and ensure continued compliance with organizational and industry standards.
- Support continuous improvement programs including cost reduction and process optimization initiatives.
- Participate in Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) activities including FMEAs, control plans, and process flow diagrams for new product or process introductions.
- Administer containment and corrective action activities for both internal issues and external (supplier or customer) quality concerns.
- Maintain internal quality standards and ensure compliance across manufacturing processes.
- Manage customer scorecards and provide accurate, timely reporting of quality performance.
- Coordinate internal quality sorts and collaborate with operations teams on product disposition.
- Communicate directly with suppliers regarding logistics issues tied to nonconforming materials or components.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the quality department and organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field – or equivalent practical experience.
- 1–3 years of experience in a high-volume, automated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and statistical techniques (SPC, root cause analysis, etc.).
- Proficiency with computers and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- ASQC (American Society for Quality Control) certification or equivalent credentials.
- Familiarity with AIAG PPAP documentation and APQP processes.
- Hands-on experience with internal auditing and external supplier audits.
- Exposure to FMEAs, control plans, and process mapping.
- Involvement in cost reduction or process efficiency initiatives.
