Summary
Department Summary The mission of the University of Michigan Recreational Sports is promoting a healthy lifestyle through engagement, leadership and activity. The Department operates multiple programs, four indoor facilities and outdoor field complexes. The department consists of 36 full-time staff and over 650 student employees. Established in 1913, the department is considered to be one of the first collegiate recreation programs and is the first program to have a facility dedicated to student recreation (Intramural Sports Building, 1928). Recreational Sports reports to Student Life through the Associate Vice President of Student Life.
Job Summary The Open Recreation Supervisor is responsible for assisting with operations at the North Campus Recreation Building during scheduled open recreation opportunities, such as badminton, pickleball, basketball and volleyball. This includes confidently directing open recreation play in accordance with Recreational Sports policies. The Open Recreation Supervisor must have strong communication and conflict resolution skills. This is a temporary position with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week, reporting to the Assistant Director.
Responsibilities*
Court Supervision (50%)
- Enforce Recreational Sports open recreation policies
- Check in and direct participants to courts during open recreation play
- Assist facility staff with set up, take down, and clean up of gym courts
- Monitor facilities to ensure they are safe, clean, and operational
- Complete shift paperwork
Customer Service (50%)
- Build rapport and develop relationships with users of gym spaces
- Provide clear explanations of Recreational Sports open recreation policies
- Answer questions and provide guidance
- Resolve conflicts
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience in an administrative and/or sports and recreation environment
- Proficient with with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Access, Powerpoint) and Google Suite Basic
- American Red Cross CPR, First Aid & AED certifications or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. If the certifications are not acquired within six months of hire, employment may be terminated
- Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United State

Working conditions
The position covers a wide variety of days and hours. The individual must be willing to work afternoons and evenings. This is a temporary position with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week.

Ability to perform duties in a stationary position. Ability to move items weighing up to 30 pounds around the facility.
