Lead Machinist | Newaygo, MI

Salary Range: $56,000 - $86,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of machinists, assigning tasks and overseeing daily operations.
• Program, set up, and operate advanced CNC machinery and conventional shop equipment.
• Perform first-piece inspection and ensure all manufactured parts meet strict quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with machinery, tooling, and production processes.
• Develop and implement efficient machining strategies to optimize output and reduce waste.
• Train new machinists on equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality control.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve product design and manufacturability.

Recommended Qualifications

• Extensive experience (5+ years) in precision machining, including advanced CNC setup and operation.
• Proven proficiency in CNC programming (G-code/M-code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360).
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, including GD&T.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience guiding a team of machinists.
• Expertise in metrology, quality control, and troubleshooting machining processes.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks CAM, Fusion 360).
• Experience operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
• Demonstrated ability in basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with 5-axis machining or other advanced CNC processes.
