ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs accurate and timely word processing and proofreading of all reports, issue papers, tables, analyses, budget-related material, and correspondence for the assigned unit.

Assists management in designing, formatting, and editing for consistency in Agency products.

Performs other duties as assigned by management personnel, which may include backup of business manager functions.

Serve on internal Senate Fiscal Agency committees.

Required Education and Experience

Successful candidates must possess a strong attention to detail and ability to process confidential information accurately. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, as well as experience with State of Michigan payroll systems (SIGMA and Infor/HRMN), is encouraged.

Alternate Education and Experience

Extensive experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, or other applicable software, and the ability to learn new technologies and software, as needed.

Knowledge of the organization, punctuation, and composition of business letters, reports, charts, and tabular material.

Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, and punctuation.

Ability to prioritize workloads during stressful situations occurring as a result of short deadlines.

Ability to use tact, discretion, and judgment in communications and distribution of information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS:

This job is performed in a general office environment and generally requires minimal physical effort or exertion. A significant amount of each day is spent working at a personal computer. The incumbent will be required to communicate orally and in writing. There is pressure to work with multiple priorities under tight time frames. The job duties may require more than a normal 40-hour work week, especially while the Legislature is in session, when evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be necessary.

Note: In addition to the above, Unit Assistants also possess the same qualifications as listed in the Bill Analysis Assistant Job Description. This list is not intended to be exhaustive. Responsibilities and duties may change at the discretion of the Director of the Senate Fiscal Agency, his or her designee, or the Associate Director. Under MCL 4.1501(4), individuals employed by the Senate Fiscal Agency are nontenured, at-will employees.
