Our clinicians are responsible for providing a variety of counseling and therapeutic services to persons served.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing a variety of counseling and therapeutic services to persons served.

  1. Assesses substance use/chemical dependency/mental health, physical and psychosocial status of persons served.
    1. Completes initial assessment according to standard practice guidelines.
    2. Demonstrates competent interview skills to obtain complete intake assessment in order to initiate treatment plan and an accurate diagnosis.
    3. Makes use of available sources of information including referral sources and family members as demonstrated by the accuracy of the admitting information.
  2. Initiates and develops treatment plan as assessed to ensure the quality of the treatment process for the person served.
    1. Develops treatment plan according to Standard Practices.
    2. Consistently includes the person served in the development of the treatment plan.
    3. Evaluates progress of the person served in meeting the treatment goals and revises the treatment plan to meet changing needs of the individual according to Standard Practices.
    4. Plans with the person served for aftercare/discharge needs as indicated by discharge goals and documents appropriate referrals.
  3. Provides counseling to person served.
    1. Conducts individual counseling sessions with persons served to discuss assignments and monitor progress in treatment.
    2. Documents counseling interventions and response of person served after each session according to Standard Practices.
    3. Demonstrates a variety of group therapy skills to facilitate group, focusing on the treatment goal(s) as indicated in progress notes of the person served.
    4. Demonstrates an ability to provide therapy for a variety of problems and crisis situations.
    5. Assists and motivates persons served in integrating into community support systems when indicated in treatment plan.
    6. Coordinates multiple treatment activities with other professionals and makes appropriate referrals based on assessment needs and as indicated on treatment plan, progress note, and case review.
  4. Maintains documentation according to Standard Practices to provide the quality and continuity of care.
    1. Completes chart documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to Standard Practice.
    2. Ensures all documentation is legible, dates, and contains proper signature and credentialing according to Standard Practices.
    3. Completes requested correspondence (with factual information only) regarding needs of the person served related to vocational, employment, legal or other issues within requested timeframe. Clinician assures that appropriate releases are signed before he/she releases any information.
  5. Identifies and provides for substance use/chemical dependency educational needs of person served, families, and health care providers.
    1. Conducts substance use disorder lectures according to the lecture schedule and the objective of the lecture.
    2. Provides for basic and specialized individual education as required in the treatment plan and documents the response of the person served in the medical record.
  6. Maintain commitment to professional competency by maintaining professional growth and development.
    1. Obtains continuing education units (minimum of 20 hours) for professional growth and development as required. Documentation confirmed.
    2. Participates in performance appraisal process by identifying own learning needs and individual goals with supervisor.
    3. Maintains knowledge of current literature in the profession.
  7. Contributes to the efficient operation of the program.
    1. Participates in staff meetings/team meetings/peer review as required.
    2. Keeps current on changes in program and Standard Practices as demonstrated by attending staff meetings, reading meeting minutes, memos, and reviewing Standard Practices manual as needed.
    3. Maintains consistent punctuality for scheduled appointments with persons served.
    4. Works with other team members such as Recovery Coaches and Program Manager’s staff members to create and maintain a therapeutic milieu.
    5. Demonstrates leadership skills by taking on special projects of temporary leadership roles as assigned.
    6. Maintains confidentiality according to New Paths Standard Practices, federal and state law at all times.
    7. Makes suggestions pertinent to cost effectiveness and cooperates with cost reduction efforts of the program.
    8. Performs other duties as assigned.
  8. Maintains and contributes to the values of New Paths.
    1. Demonstrates quality of care by practicing according to New Paths Code of Ethics and Work Rules, as well as codes of ethics related to professional licensing and/or certification.
    2. Provides positive, supportive communication to persons served, visitors, families and other staff.
    3. Demonstrates support of co-workers by providing constructive feedback and using the appropriate New Paths mechanisms to resolve problems.
    4. Supports the New Paths program and values by positive community interactions as indicated by positive feedback from referral sources, persons served, and the community and when evidenced by satisfaction questionnaires and outcome results.

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  1. Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences, Human Services or equivalent for substance use disorder and chemical dependence counseling
  2. Registered Development Plan with MCBAP, CADC, CAADC (for substance use disorder).
  3. Maintain licensing and/or certification to meet contractual and State requirements.
  4. Ability to apply and successfully acquire and maintain privileging and credentialing through Region 10.
  5. One year work related experience.
  6. Ability to thoroughly and competently document therapeutic intervention to meet NPI, contract and accreditation requirements.
  7. Basic computer skills.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with Michigan Department of Corrections

Physical and Mental Effort: Light physical effort with freedom of movement. Likelihood of multiple, interpersonal interactions with distressed persons, families, and their referral sources. Duties conducted within a professional office setting and access areas within the building with stairs. Regular computer keyboard use and some light lifting (10-15 lbs.) may be required. Some travel may be associated with the position.
