Physical Therapist I
Salary Range: $37.00+/hour (based on experience)
Sign-On Bonus: $20,000 (2-year commitment)
Shift Type: Days
Shift Times: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Hours/Day: 8
Shift Notes: 8:00–5:30 Monday–Thursday and 8:00–12:00 Friday; no holidays
Weekend Requirements: No weekends
On-Call Requirements: Discussed at interview
Position Summary:
Primarily outpatient Physical Therapist role with some acute care coverage. This position delegates responsibility to Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides. Activities are patient-focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patient function through formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status
- Develop goal-specific treatment regimens based on assessment data and patient tolerance
- Submit written treatment plans for inclusion in the authorized plan of care and update plans as patient status changes
- Co-sign verbal orders received by Physical Therapist Assistants as necessary
- Establish treatment schedules, including frequency and duration, in coordination with patients, families, caregivers, and clinical support staff
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment rationale, and therapeutic interventions
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapy Aides, Home Health Aides, and students per regulatory standards
- Recommend adaptive and supportive equipment and assist with ordering and acquisition
- Document patient response to treatment and changes in condition per documentation policies and regulatory requirements
- Complete daily documentation for billing compliance
- Provide treatment interventions and demonstrate competence to restore optimal function
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise and education programs
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members
- Promote staff education, professional development, and process improvement
- Assist with program development and participate in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings
- Function as case manager for assigned patients
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft® Windows and related technologies
- Participate in ongoing learning and mandatory training as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Exposure to stressful situations, including trauma, grief, and public interaction
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
- Ability to move freely throughout the facility with or without assistance
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking with possible postural changes
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases
- Ability to multitask, work independently, maintain attendance, and remain alert
- Physical Demand Level: Medium
- Occasionally lift/carry 21–50 lbs
- Frequently lift/carry 20 lbs
- Constantly lift/carry up to 10 lbs
Requirements:
Certifications and Licensure:
- Physical Therapist (PT) – Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required within 1 month of hire or transfer
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Required
Experience, Training, and Skills:
- Successful completion of organizational and affiliate-specific orientation
- Successful completion of new hire competency requirements
