Description

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan on a full-time basis.

The Role

As part of the ARC Advanced Materials Planning organization, you will lead the definition, planning, and execution of materials automation initiatives that improve efficiency and scalability across GM’s global manufacturing footprint. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and automation technologies. You will assess opportunities, resolve complex issues, and develop standardized solutions that minimize deployment risk while driving cost efficiency and operational excellence.

This position requires both strategic planning and hands-on execution—balancing technical expertise, project management, and leadership in guiding teams through material flow automation projects.

Lead initiatives to identify, scope, and implement materials automation opportunities across plant sites.

Collaborate with execution, IT, and controls teams to ensure interoperability and proper standards for traffic control and automation integration.

Escalate critical issues with recommended resolutions and communicate updates to leadership.

Identify constraints and assist with mitigation plans to preserve timing and minimize impacts on launch schedules.

Travel to plant locations or OEM sites for on-site support, workshops, technology evaluations, and strategic discussions.

Standardize ancillary equipment solutions to reduce variation and complexity, improve cost efficiency, and minimize deployment risk.

Develop and improve standardized processes and tools for automation project ideation, financial approval, and deployment readiness.

Create and administer training plans, ensuring knowledge transfer, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across sites.

Support project financials, including forecasting of capital and operating expenditures.

Coordinate data collection and build materials automation deployment roadmaps for each site, documenting strategies, technologies, IT requirements, and constraints as part of the Plan for Every Plant initiative.

Support human resource activities related to team development, including goal setting, performance discussions, and continuous growth.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing and Engineering.

At least 2 years of experience in a corporate headquarters role.

Strong knowledge of corporate tools, processes, and project management methodologies.

Willingness to travel 25–30% to support global manufacturing facilities.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Direct exposure to automation execution with a deep understanding of material flow automation principles.

Proven ability to scope and implement automation technologies in manufacturing environments.

High-level communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings and strategies to all levels of the organization.
