Alternatives For Girls is seeking an individual dedicated to community, youth success, and advocacy to fill this new position on its Youth Prevention team.

Position Summary

The Lead Youth Advocacy Coordinator provides daily leadership and support for Alternatives For Girls’ HERizons Afterschool and Prevention Programs. This role ensures smooth delivery of programming, fosters strong youth engagement, and strengthens connections between youth and decision-makers. The Coordinator also advances community outreach, networking, and advocacy , empowering participants to raise their voices with local, state, and national lawmakers on issues such as education, youth rights, and public safety.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Oversee daily programming, transitions, and safety protocols.
• Coordinate age-appropriate activities that align with program goals, licensing, and funder requirements.

Youth Advocacy & Engagement

• Build supportive, mentoring relationships with participants.
• Address conflicts using trauma-informed, restorative approaches.
• Facilitate workshops to increase youth understanding of rights, policies, and civic responsibilities.
• Establish platforms (youth councils, listening sessions, town halls) for participants to engage with lawmakers and decision-makers.

Community Outreach & Partnerships

• Plan and support outreach events such as resource fairs, family nights, and school open houses.
• Represent AFG at community meetings, coalitions, and youth-serving networks.
• Develop partnerships with schools, colleges, and community organizations.
• Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and special projects.

Policy Awareness & Youth Voice

• Monitor and share updates on local, state, and national policies that affect youth.
• Translate policy issues into youth-friendly learning modules.
• Prepare and support youth to meet with city council members, state legislators, and congressional representatives.
• Facilitate youth participation in public hearings, legislative advocacy days, and national youth summits.

Administration & Compliance

• Maintain accurate attendance and program documentation.
• Support quarterly reporting, data collection, and evaluation.
• Ensure compliance with AFG policies, licensing, and funder requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Youth Development, Education, Public Policy, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• At least 2–3 years of experience working with youth in afterschool, prevention, community-based, or advocacy settings.
• Experience in youth advocacy, community organizing, or program leadership strongly preferred.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of education equity, curfew laws, youth rights, and juvenile justice issues.
• Experience with outreach, civic engagement, or advocacy events.
• Commitment to Alternatives For Girls’ mission to help girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy, and exploitation.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends.

Work Environment

• Primarily on-site at Alternatives For Girls and partner schools.
• Active, youth-centered setting requiring quick response to participant needs.
• Occasional travel to community events, schools, and meetings with local, state, and national lawmakers .
