Shelter guest advocate
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Determine guest’s needs within the first seven days.
- Set goals and deal with issues that have caused homelessness leading to permanent housing or admission to a needed program.
- Have knowledge of, and make referrals to, agencies and help that is available in the community.
- Help with accountability and enforcement of case management / money management.
- Responsible to do weekly case management.
Job standards:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Bible, Christian Education, Social Work, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate verbally with guests’ families, other helping agencies, and church representatives, board members, the public, and other staff members.
- Ability to read/write English and document transactions. Knowing Spanish as a second language would be a plus.
- Must be honest, dependable, and exhibit a warm, cheerful, caring manner.
- Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license.
