District Manager (Single Member Office)
This is an at-will, partisan position serving as the primary in-district representative for the Speaker of the House. The District Manager plays a critical role in advancing the Member’s legislative priorities at the local level by maintaining strong relationships with constituents, community stakeholders, and local leaders.
This individual is expected to spend the majority of their time within the district, ensuring the Member maintains a visible, responsive, and engaged presence.
Principal Accountabilities
- Serves as a primary in-district liaison for the Speaker
- Maintains a strong, consistent presence throughout the district
- Represents the Speaker at local meetings, events, and community functions
- Delivers legislative updates to community groups and stakeholders aligned with the Member’s priorities
- Organizes and facilitates district meetings, roundtables, and stakeholder discussions
- Maintains clear and consistent communication between district stakeholders and the Lansing office
- Supports the advancement of the Member’s legislative and district priorities through proactive outreach and communicates to the Lansing office
- Researches, prioritizes, and responds to constituent concerns, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution
- Develops and executes district outreach strategies in coordination with the Lansing staff
- Recommends district-specific messaging and engagement strategies based on local needs and data
- Monitors legislative activity and communicates relevant updates to district stakeholders
- Use Indigov to maintain accurate constituent records/casework/recognition, stakeholder tracking, and district data
- Coordinates with central staff and other resources as needed to support constituent services
- Travels to Lansing as needed for coordination, planning, and legislative support
- Responsible for finding and drafting tributes/happy notes and communicating with Lansing office for review/approval, and mailing/delivery.
- Leads or supports special projects as assigned by the Member or senior staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Ability to work primarily in-district with periodic travel to Lansing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials, staff, community leaders, and stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- High level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality
