What a day looks like

At 6:00 AM you step onto the floor in Shelby Township and join a crew getting an automated system ready to run. You partner with mechanical builders to stage parts, verify build sequence, and set the day’s priorities. As equipment moves from pre-assembly to install, you handle mechanical layout and alignment, reinforce safety and quality expectations, and keep the team synchronized. When issues surface, you spot them quickly, escalate to the right stakeholders, and coordinate with engineering, electrical, and integration teams to keep the build on track. Throughout the startup window, you help reinforce training, transfer know-how, and support continuous improvement of the build process.

Core responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support to mechanical builders during automation equipment installs and startups
• Coordinate daily tasks, organize build sequence, and help keep milestones on schedule
• Execute mechanical layout, precision alignment, and system-level installation activities
• Uphold site safety, product quality, and build standards throughout the job
• Reinforce training and best practices across mechanical build teams
• Identify bottlenecks, quality concerns, or delays and escalate promptly
• Collaborate closely with engineering, electrical, and integration groups to resolve issues
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on build methods and flow

Qualifications

• 3+ years in roles such as Senior Machine Builder, Machine Builder, or Toolmaker
• Proven mechanical assembly background with automation and complex machinery
• Hands-on experience with automated assembly or manufacturing systems
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices and quality systems
• Strong ability to juggle multiple priorities in fast-paced environments
• Journeyman’s card or technical certification preferred
• Experience as a lead installer or site support contributor is a plus
