BMET
The Biomedical Technician inspects, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, rounds and performs preventative maintenance on all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, life support equipment including electrical safety testing.
The Biomedical Technician demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to keeping our Promise of Caring.
Responsibilities:Performs timely preventive and corrective maintenance on medical devices
Participates with Facilities Engineers and others in the development and installation of equipment and systems.
Document and maintain P.M. program keeping database current.
Attends training and service schools on medical equipment as required.
Maintains relationships with customers by rounding and communicating effectively.
Works well with other departments to achieve goals.
Takes on-call rotation as established by Facilities Services.
Adds and removes equipment from the database.
Verifies or develops PM procedures that meet manufacturer specifications.
Acts as a technology advisor to clinical staff.
Performs electrical safety inspection on newly purchased, loaner, and trial equipment.
Participates as a technical advisor concerning the purchase of medical equipment.
Supports department goals to ensure HFAP compliance.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An associate�s degree in biomedical engineering technology (BMET) or electronics technology from an accredited college which provides an extern/OJT program. In lieu of an associate�s degree in specialty, four (4) years� experience in biomedical engineering or electronics technology required. Experience in modality supported to hospital operations i.e. basic medical equipment, monitors, BP machines and etc. preferred.
Completion of medical terminology course must be completed within 12 months of the date of hire. Valid Michigan Driver�s License required. Completion of one or more of the following BMET certifications of CBET, CRES, or CLES from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation within five (years) of the date of hire.

Color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
NFPA 99.
Computing skills including a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and email applications and/or a willingness to learn.
Strong ability to think and work independently.
Read schematics and flow charts.
Comprehend instruction and effectively communicate.
Analyze. Repair and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Constant use of hands and fingers, talk, hear, taste, smell vision � near, far, depth perception and color.
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stoop/kneel/crouch, twisting, reaching.
Occasional sit, recline and climb.
Constant lifting up to 10 pounds.
Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
