Cattle Scheduler
Purpose and Scope/General Summary: We are looking for a Cattle Scheduler for JBS Regional Beef that reports to the plant in Plainwell, Michigan.
The Cattle Scheduler serves as a crucial corporate role within JBS Regional Beef operations, acting as the primary link between cattle procurement, receiving, and processing activities at the plants.
The typical office work week is Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional hours required on Saturdays as needed for kill operations. A second shift is staffed from 4:00 PM to midnight, Sunday through Thursday, so off-hour calls during the week are expected to be minimal. This position is based at the JBS plant in Plainwell, MI.
Occasionally, calls may need to be answered on weekends if trucks must be dispatched from weekend purchases for Monday’s kill. The Cattle Scheduler must also be available for rare emergency situations, such as plant breakdowns occurring on Saturdays or after hours, which could impact cattle harvesting or require changes to scheduled loading times.
Responsibilities:
- Assure that cattle are scheduled and arrive for each slaughter day at Plainwell, MI plant
- Schedule cattle according to the Predicted Harvest Schedule mix
- Cattle Schedulers utilize a web-based custom computer system which is used to record all purchased cattle, all scheduling details, and payment to sellers. From the scheduler standpoint there will be some data entry of purchase agreements and hauling details required.
- Hire and dispatch haulers where JBS is responsible for the freight or to assist a supplier
- Assign delivery slots/appointments so as to maintain an adequate flow of cattle
- Develop a good and appropriate working relationship with:
- Supervisor
- Head of Procurement – Division
- Head of Procurement – JBS Plainwell Regional Beef Plant
- Suppliers to be scheduled
- Haulers to be hired or assigned delivery appointments
- Barn Manager – JBS Plainwell Regional Beef Plant
- Cattle Accounting team - JBS Plainwell Regional Beef Plant
- Monitor freight rates and cost of split loads so as to minimize freight cost for JBS
- Create and distribute reports to all appropriate stakeholders
- Assist the rest of the corporate scheduling team as needed or requested
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the transportation industry, especially livestock transportation, is highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, as schedulers use Excel daily in their role.
- Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:
- Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
- Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
- 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
- Base salary range of $67,000-$75,000;
- Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
