Senior Civil Engineer

- Participate in the process of interviewing prospective new clients to understand their needs.
- Collaborate with the client in planning design, determining solutions and scope of the project to develop a structural approach to meet client needs.
- Lead and coordinate project efforts with other disciplines, clients, and construction partners to meet schedule milestones.
- Provide civil design concepts, calculation, layout and good construction practices for a variety of projects.
- Coordinate and schedule civil team design and permitting efforts.
- Assist with quality checks and ensure the reviews of all projects.
- Conduct field assessments, and engineering studies.
- Lead and coordinate project efforts with other disciplines, clients, and construction partners to meet schedule milestones.
- Mentor team to share experiences, knowledge, skills, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Assist the Manager of the Department in creating training and mentorship opportunities for individuals and the team.
- Lead, teach, and guide other project team members to assist in their growth and development.
- Guide young professionals through the Licensure Process.
- Provide input on work priorities and project scheduling.
- Conduct quality control reviews on various projects
- Serve as a civil engineering subject matter expert to resolve project issues.
- Provide input to department standards and procedures.
- Perform and lead civil/site design for commercial, industrial, K–12, higher education, and public-sector projects, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and paving.
- Collaborate closely with in-house architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, and MEP engineers to integrate civil design with building, utility, and campus/site improvements.
- Serve as the lead civil engineer on assigned projects, coordinating civil scope internally and externally.
- Direct and review work performed by junior engineers and designers assisting on projects; provide clear technical guidance, and mentoring.
- Prepare and oversee stormwater management designs, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, detention/retention systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop technical calculations, drainage reports, specifications, and permit submittal packages for agency review.
- Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, utility providers, and regulatory authorities.
- Perform and/or lead construction-phase services including RFI responses, submittal reviews, site observations, punch lists, and record drawings.
- Participate in internal project coordination meetings and contribute to scope development, design schedules, and fee development as needed.
- Support QA/QC efforts by reviewing deliverables for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with firm standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET- accredited program.
- Professional Licensure in Michigan ability to transfer licensure.
- Ten (10)+ years’ experience in the A/E Industry is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of A/E construction documents and the construction industry.
- Strong working knowledge of stormwater regulations, municipal codes, and public-agency approval processes.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to lead and support a talented team.
- Participation in professional organization memberships.
- Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, as well as standard civil engineering software.
