Location: Climax- Scotts Junior/Senior High School (Grades 6–12)
Reports To: Building Principal and/or Superintendent

Position Summary
The Athletic Director / Dean of Students provides leadership in two critical areas of school operations: student behavior and engagement, and interscholastic athletics. This role supports a positive school culture by promoting student accountability, wellness, sportsmanship, and safety while ensuring compliance with district, conference, and MHSAA regulations. The position works collaboratively with administrators, counselors, teachers, coaches, families, and community partners to support the whole child.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Support & Discipline (Dean of Students Role)
- Assist in implementing and enforcing the school’s code of conduct and behavioral expectations.
- Investigate student behavior incidents and administer discipline using restorative and positive behavior practices.
- Monitor attendance and collaborate with families and staff to address chronic absenteeism.
- Support student re-entry plans following suspensions or extended absences.
- Serve as a point of contact for students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to discipline and attendance.
- Be visible and accessible throughout the school day (hallways, lunch, arrival/dismissal).
Athletic Program Leadership (Athletic Director Role)
- Plan, organize, and oversee all junior high and high school athletic programs.
- Ensure compliance with MHSAA, conference, and district athletic policies.
- Develop and manage athletic schedules, transportation, and facility usage.
- Oversee athletic budgets, purchasing, equipment, and uniform inventory.
- Coordinate officials, athletic trainers, and medical coverage for events.
Coaching & Student-Athlete Support
- Hire, supervise, evaluate, and support coaching staff.
- Ensure coaches adhere to district expectations, safety protocols, and eligibility rules.
- Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and behavioral expectations.
- Collaborate with counselors and administration regarding eligibility, discipline, and attendance concerns involving athletes.
Event Management & Supervision
- Oversee home athletic events, including supervision, security, volunteers, and staffing (ticket takers, scorekeepers, concessions).
- Assist with school-wide supervision duties such as assemblies, lunch periods, and special events.
- Support crisis response, emergency procedures, and school safety planning.
Communication & Community Relations
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, staff, coaches, officials, and community partners.
- Communicate clearly and consistently regarding discipline expectations, athletic schedules, and program updates.
- Collaborate with booster organizations and school communications staff to promote programs and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid Michigan teaching or administrative certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
- Coaching and/or athletic administration experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MHSAA regulations and student behavior best practices.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

Position Notes
- Evening and weekend hours required during athletic seasons.
- Administrative duties may shift seasonally based on school and athletic needs.
