Whitmore Lake, MI

Job Description

Job Description

People's Express (PEX) Whitmore Lake, Michigan

People's Express is seeking a community-focused and performance-driven Oakland Program Coordinator who will work on the ground with local communities to support a transportation program serving communities across Oakland County. This role plays a meaningful part in helping people stay connected to jobs, healthcare, and daily life through reliable, community-based transportation.

About People's Express

People's Express is a nonprofit transportation provider serving communities throughout southeast Michigan. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and accessible transportation that helps people stay connected to their communities, jobs, healthcare, and daily activities.

At People's Express, transportation is more than a service-it's a way to support independence and strengthen communities.

About the Role

The Oakland Program Coordinator serves as a key connector across community partners, operations, and leadership, working directly with communities to strengthen program presence, build relationships, and support how the service shows up day-to-day.

This role combines program oversight, stakeholder engagement, and performance monitoring, with a focus on maintaining visibility into program performance, identifying issues early, and supporting effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Program Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor ridership trends and utilization patterns
  • Review service performance indicators and rider feedback
  • Monitor program performance using the Oakland Program Performance Dashboard and related indicators
  • Identify emerging issues or opportunities affecting program performance
  • Provide leadership with insights on program trends and risks
  • Provide ridership projections and program performance insights to support annual budgeting and planning discussions

Stakeholder Relationships and Communication

  • Maintain relationships with township officials, community partners, and regional transit partners
  • Ensure proactive communication regarding program performance, service updates, and emerging issues
  • Support township commissioners with accurate and timely program information
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Oakland Transit, SMART, and other regional partners

Outreach and Program Awareness

  • Coordinate outreach events and community presentations
  • Identify opportunities to increase program awareness and participation
  • Support communication efforts that clearly reflect the program's value to participating communities

Operational Collaboration

  • Work in collaboration with Operations leadership to review service performance and support service improvements
  • Share rider feedback, performance trends, and service observations with Operations leadership
  • Participate in regular Program Performance Review Meetings with Operations leadership to review ridership trends, service reliability indicators, and emerging concerns
  • Coordinate communication between program stakeholders and Operations leadership
  • Help ensure alignment between operational decisions and program expectations by providing context from both stakeholder and performance perspectives
  • Operations leadership retains authority over service delivery. The Coordinator provides recommendations and program insight to support operational and program decisions.

Program Coordination and Reporting

  • Ensure all required program reports and documentation are accurate, complete, and delivered on time
  • Maintain accountability for reporting timelines, proactively identifying and addressing risks to deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and expectations
  • Maintain organized program records and reference materials

Team Supervision

  • Supervise the Oakland Program Assistant
  • Provide direction on data preparation and reporting support
  • Coordinate administrative and program support tasks
  • Ensure reporting and documentation are accurate, complete, and delivered on time
Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree required. Bachelor's degree in public administration, transportation planning, business administration, communications, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Two to three years of experience in program coordination, community outreach, public administration, transportation services, or a related field preferred. Candidates with strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills may be considered even if they do not have the full preferred experience.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to analyze program performance and identify trends
  • Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Comfortable working across teams and navigating operational environments
  • Ability to exercise judgment and raise concerns when needed
  • Ability to represent the organization professionally with community partners
  • Takes ownership of their work and follows through on commitments to program success.
  • Familiarity with or connection to the communities served in Oakland County, or the ability to quickly build that understanding
