Sous Chef – Fine Dining Restaurant

Javier’s Downtown is seeking a talented and driven Sous Chef to help lead our culinary team. We are an upscale, high-volume restaurant known for premium steaks, fresh seafood, and elevated Latin and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. We’re looking for a leader who is passionate about quality, consistency, and creating exceptional dining experiences.

As Sous Chef, you will work directly with the Executive Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, maintain the highest culinary standards, and inspire a team committed to excellence.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef in managing all kitchen operations.
• Lead and supervise line cooks, prep cooks, and dish staff during service.
• Ensure every dish meets Javier’s standards for quality, presentation, seasoning, and consistency.
• Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff.
• Expedite service while maintaining accuracy and timing.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and waste reduction.
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, scheduling, and labor management.
• Help develop new menu items and seasonal features.
• Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented kitchen culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of kitchen leadership experience in an upscale or high-volume restaurant.
• Previous Sous Chef or strong Kitchen Manager experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of steaks, seafood, sauces, and modern cooking techniques.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Culinary degree is a plus but not required.
