Job Description Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation process, working under the supervision of licensed physical therapists and according to the physicians plan of care, to help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, and other physical impairments. This position requires a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to implement care plans tailored to individual patient needs. The PTA will work in various settings.

Duties

  • Provides direct physical therapy according to directions of physical therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care.
  • Conduct therapeutic exercises and modalities as directed by the supervising therapist.
  • Treats patient to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Monitor patient progress and document treatment outcomes accurately.
  • Observes and reports to the physical therapist a the patient's to treatment and any changes in patient's condition.
  • Instructs patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Educate patients and their families on exercises and techniques to promote recovery.
  • Maintain a clean and organized treatment area, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and in good working condition.
  • Maintains necessary records; clinical notes and conference notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record in prescribed time frames.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to physical therapy practices.
  • Experience or familiarity with orthopedics, pediatrics, acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation settings.
  • Ability to develop and follow care plans effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Proficiency in using various therapeutic modalities and equipment commonly found in clinics or skilled nursing facilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation of patient progress.

Position Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with either and Associate's degree in science or applied science that is approved by the American Physical Therapy Association, Inc.
  • Current certification or license as required by state law
  • Possesses and maintains current CPR certification
