A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue (ARAR) is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and organized Shelter Manager to oversee the daily operations of our animal rescue shelter. This is a key leadership position responsible for animal care oversight, staff and volunteer management, medical coordination, and administrative compliance.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on animal shelter experience who can lead with empathy while maintaining structure, accountability, and high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care & Medical Oversight

• Oversee daily care for all shelter cats and dogs
• Ensure animals are current on vaccinations, spay/neuter, and medical needs
• Coordinate veterinary appointments for shelter animals and follow up on treatments
• Assist Animal Care Technicians with vaccinations as needed
• Maintain accurate animal records, including master lists, foster lists, and microchip registrations

Staff & Volunteer Management

• Supervise shelter staff and support daily operations
• Manage employee schedules, hours, and approve overtime as needed
• Maintain volunteer programs, including scheduling, training, and recognition
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and Animal Behavior Assessor on animal intakes and behavior assessments

Administrative & Regulatory Duties

• Maintain shelter databases and software systems (e.g., scheduling, forms, contracts)
• Draft and execute contracts related to shelter operations
• Order and manage inventory including microchips, vaccines, supplies, and special diets
• Prepare and submit required regulatory reports (including MDARD compliance)
• Manage deposits and track shelter inventory

Donor & Public Relations Support

• Ensure timely distribution of donation acknowledgments and tax receipts
• Support donor, volunteer, and public communications
• Answer phones and assist with front desk operations as needed

Qualifications

• Proven leadership experience in an animal shelter or rescue environment
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Working knowledge of animal medical and behavioral care
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable supervising staff and enforcing protocols
• Familiarity with shelter software and record-keeping systems preferred

Reporting Structure

• Reports directly to the Executive Director
• Works closely with the Lead Animal Care Technician and Animal Behavior Assessor
